Pros

The people, and the tech

Cons

Really bad decision making when it came to hiring. Not just the rapid expansion during Covid which was more quantity over quality but the huge mistake of bringing in new Directors and high priced hires that did little to improve the company and were a costly mistake. Case in point before and during the start of Covid the company thrived and profits were up, after hiring increased substantially it was not sustainable. The directors were doing a decent job but once more directors and C level were brought in they did little to improve, if not made things worse and were paid a stupid amount for it. And don’t get me started on monthly pizza parties so to speak, terrible way to motivate people. From my personal experience I saw that there were people bought in that did nothing but milk the company for every penny, these same people that knew nothing about the company and did a poo job in their role, roles which should have been offered to existing employees in terms of promotion.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As a tech-first company it's nice to hear you valued our developments. We understand your concerns about rapid growth, Covid was an exceptional time, and we have certainly learnt from it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Our communications are exceptionally transparent between all levels of team members. We use a number of channels including weekly MS Teams posts, monthly leadership updates, monthly OKR reviews, in-person open doors sessions, and our regular email newsletter. Managers also communicate in weekly team meetings, monthly department meetings, and 1:1s and everything is documented and open to read.

Pros

Flexibility, people oriented company, great environment.

Cons

After the redundancies, there is a lot more of control. No autonomy to make decisions. Chiefs are digging into things when they need to concentrate in their roles. They keep recognizing the same people. There is a focus now on making this company the "amazon" of the publishers when Amazon is one of the worst companies to work for. Top leadership needs a huge change. They need to find solutions for the current situation.

Thank you for sharing - we are glad to hear you enjoy the people-oriented environment at Frontiers. Our senior leaders are paying more attention to details after the redundancies because their focus is on finding solutions to move forward. However, our working culture allows all employees and teams autonomy within their own projects.
