Pros

Specialist and manager level coworkers are great - often the main reason for remaining at the company. Pay is average for the less senior roles but progression very limited. Remote working by default is good and offers flexibility, but the standard working day is 8am-5pm or equivalent (and in recent years, remote working is also not a unique selling point).

Cons

As echoed in many of the reviews over the past 6 months, following a major change in how the company operates, employee satisfaction has been incredibly low. Large scale changes are often made with little to no consultation from those who will be responsible for doing the actual work (i.e., those at the specialist and manager level), and when the changes are implemented and ultimately have major issues as a result of this, constructive feedback is often dismissed/ignored in favour of the minority of (largely) baseless positive feedback. Combined with the incredibly poor communication of the above, many on the ground level within the company feel that they essentially have no voice, and this has whittled away any genuine desire to carry out anything other than the minimum in their role. Which for the record, is still unmanageable for many on the Content team, after the combination of what was previously two distinct roles was moved forward with no prior consultation to those who would be doing the new role, and for no additional incentive - with incentives such as previous Summer and Christmas parties being cancelled (yet somehow, funding was still available for a plush managerial retreat for upper management, and extremely lavish accommodation/venues for those invited to the Frontiers Forum in 2023). To cap it all off - with the current business practices being utilised, Frontiers operates on a purely for-profit basis. Their current operational practices do not benefit authors, editors, or even those outside of the senior level within the company - sheer volume of articles is always pushed as the number one priority, despite public claims of quality and integrity. It has been incredibly disheartening to see the genuine enthusiasm from authors and editors, with the knowledge behind closed doors being that they are viewed as no more than numbers by upper management.

Pros

The people, sense of community, fully remote working, good staff parties, target driven bonus.

Cons

Micro management, ever shifting priorities, long work hours and no time to breathe. Doesn't invest in employees through training - little to no career progression.

Pros

remote working with great colleagues.

Cons

they have withdrawn the Christmas party, bonus.... and about the annual pay raise even if you are a good performer is like having 0 pay raise (2.5% in Spain last year). No health insurance, no annual medical check-up (this last thing is our right in different countries, not a simple benefit). They implemented instead an incentive scheme that is unrealistic, without taking into consideration the period from Jan-Oct. Don't work here if you can, everyone here is trying to find anything else. The targets are unrealistic and even the manager of the manager of the manager knows it, but UM simply don't care.
