Bureaucracy with benefits

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

* Decent salary * You can learn a lot if you're proactive * They promote internally * They've taken COVID safety pretty seriously * Good other benefits e.g. around employee mental health

Cons

* The company is somewhat bureaucratic; definitely not a startup culture * Top heavy; many managers, sometimes with differing opinions. As a mid-tier employee you can get caught in the middle sometimes. * Really depends on which team you're in as to what kind of experience you'll have * If you're a developer, expect to spend a lot of time navigating the complexity of the tech stack. (This could be a pro, if you love dealing with infrastructure. But if you "just want to write code", it could be frustrating for you.)

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience at Siteminder. As you will have noticed our engineering and product teams have been going through an significant evolution over the last year. With over 200 people in tech and product, we had to build our leadership layer so we can continue to scale and support the development of our people. We've also moved from independent products with their own tech stacks and processes, to much more alignment and integration of our product. This has required aligning some of our tech stack and aligning our development processes. What this means is we can really focus on improving our developer experience along with growing our developer skills with the aim of providing a flexible long term career path for our people. All this said we know along the way we've not always got it right, but I am very happy to see that we are acknowledging our mistakes and responding to feedback from our people. We have a really exciting journey over the next few years and I am personally looking forward to seeing everyone in the business grow with this. Regards Matt Hyne Chief Development Officer and Head of Engineering

Great company with local problems

Recommend
CEO approval
Business Outlook

Pros

There are opportunities to work with some very good colleagues, good potential to achieve targets with competitive products. They used to provide food and drinks at the end of the week with some fun theme events. The CEO is good at giving honest answers to questions during local meetings arranged regularly.

Cons

The problem is not the company because the company is great. It is down to local problems. You are scored and treated depending on your looks or popularity, it's a very male driven environment where inappropriate behaviour can grow. Senior managers only care about looking for other people to blame, all they want is revenue no matter what the cost. There is a big cloud over everyone as people get stomped on and it always ends up with managers turning a blind eye, it is easier to hide their heads in the sand and pretend it isn't as bad as it is. Because head office is so far away it is understandable that they don't know the full truth and they have to rely on surveys, but everyone keeps the truth hidden because they fear being caught. Promotions and jobs have been given to people because of connections leaving more deserving employees out of work.

Thank you for your feedback, although I have to say I'm really sad to read your review and would love the opportunity to discuss your concerns in more details, please feel free to reach out to me direct at Dionne.Niven@SiteMinder.com. Your feedback is certainly not in line with our culture or the feedback that we receive every week through our OfficeVibe engagement tool. Prior to COVID, the exec and Senior teams made regular visits to Galway and hosted both all staff townhalls and smaller group forums to ensure that our people have a voice and an opportunity to raise concerns. Unfortunately, this is the first time that I am hearing this feedback. We do have a very defined career pathway for sales which is based upon performance. We are in the process of rolling out a new career pathway which not only provides more learning opportunities for our sales team, but also assesses knowledge and behaviours, we are confident that this will address some of the feedback that employees have given to enhance the career pathways. I look forward to hearing from you, Dionne.

Pros

Some of the best people you will ever meet. Company provided fruits, cereals etc. Friday drinks.

Cons

Very poor management who lack people skills and are very unapproachable. The management team seem to look out for their own and there was very little engagement with staff. Career progression became difficult if you did not play into their games and office politics. Management treat good hard working people as a resource and not an asset.

Thank you for your feedback, sorry to hear your experience was not a wholly positive one. We are looking to continually develop our people and this month we are launching the career pathway for the Customer Teams which will fully outline the career progression opportunities available in these teams.
