Pros

Colleagues below the management level are some of the best you could hope for. HR are good at onboarding new staff. Segments of middle management are good at recruiting. That's where all the great colleagues come from. You get to use some of the latest technologies in the industry. We get an open fridge on Fridays.

Cons

No matter how much they recruit, they never have enough people because upper management struggle to prioritise. HR aren't trusted by a lot of staff, complaints that should have been dealt with in confidence end up having repercussions for the person who made the complaint. HR seems to think using surveys is going to help/yield insights into company culture and how to fix it without acknowledging that whenever they've tried to do this, it's not worked. Their solution is to keep changing the survey software. Product division take engineering for granted, as if there is a pecking order and engineering are lower on it.

Thank you for your feedback, we've invested heavily in recruitment and onboarding and it's great to hear that is paying off. I am however disappointed to hear your concerns around HR support and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you confidentially. This is the first time that we’ve received this type of feedback and it's really important that we are able to understand and address any concerns. Please reach out directly to myself or Matt Hyne, our VP, Engineering. Prioritisation is a continuous process for us, as an ambitious and fast growing organisation, this is something that our new Engineering Leadership team are working on improving. Our engagement survey has driven a number of new initiatives including tech bootcamps, career pathing, SiteMinder Live and wellness. Sounds like we can improve our communication around actions and initiatives. Our new tool which we implemented in November provides a greater level of insight which will allow us to tailor engagement initiatives by team once we have gathered enough data.

Toxic Work culture

Pros

HR is keen to improve the current work culture

Cons

There are some hidden issues with the working culture where the team is willing to sabotage to remove and cause team member to get sacked. It is like a cheerleader audition and team member is selected based on the rest of the team opinion and not based on individual performance and ability to do the work.

Thank you for sharing your comments, I am really sad to read your review as your experience is not representative of our values or culture. Having fully investigated your concerns, I can confidently say that individual performance is not based on team opinion or treated like an audition, I am sorry that this was your interpretation. For anyone reading, there was a team joke regarding an individual buying Friday drinks if they passed probation. The individual concerned had already passed probation, so it was done in jest and the employee encouraged the humour. We really encourage our teams to have fun and share their sense of humour at work, but take onboard that this type of humour could be misinterpreted. As an organisation, we're growing rapidly which makes it a very fast paced environment that doesn't suit everyone. Sadly, in this particular case, SiteMinder wasn't for you. Generally, our eNPS and employee engagement is high and there is a real sense that people love working here. We are sorry that you didn’t have this experience with us and wish you all the best for your future success.

Pros

Free cereal, biscuits, bread, coffee, tea. Beer on Friday. Good location. Nice people. Growing business.

Cons

Lack of career progression / career development. Too much external hiring with no interest in training and developing current employees to move into more senior roles. Leadership issues and poor management. Don't focus on doing a good job if you do want one of the rare promotion opportunities that aren't advertised externally, just get on well with the current management. No clear lines of communication between departments and a general lack of communication. No interest in employee feedback.

Thank you for your candid feedback. Our aim is certainly not to hire external and forget about our team and if we have faltered in this regard, we will hold ourself accountable with a view to making positive change. The aim is to make sure we focus on the growth of our people internally but have this happen in parallel to growing and scaling the org. No small task, i'm sure you would agree. We are always open to discussion with our team on how we can make this happen more effectively. We are realistic in that we are very good at being the size we have been but we have never been the size we are going to be and so it is a journey we are on as a team together, navigating scaling challenges whilst trying to make sure our people feel like they are SiteMinder.
