Thank you for sharing your feedback. We agree, our London office has a great vibe. Going through redundancies early last year was incredibly difficult, but we have remained motivated and turned things around, and are growing once again this year.

Pros

Very friendly and collaborative colleagues, PTO, above market pay and benefits, some really knowledgeable and engaging managers. Some of Frontiers activities like their annual sustainability-related award and Frontiers in Young Minds give a sense of working for a better world. Management does All-Hands meetings frequently where they try to be transparent about where the company is. Middle management layer was amazing to work with and executives - especially the CEO - are great people who care about the company and its employees.

Cons

Constant change of focus and targets, a lot of micro management from the executive layer, struggling to let go control of every detail moving from a start-up to a larger company. There's a sense of being different from any other publisher that distracts from the mission and confuses staff from focusing on developing technology to help researchers or being a publisher with a high number of high-quality outputs. There's a general feeling of always being on fire-fighting mode and whenever executives look into something, everyone's attention goes there (and is taken away from everything else).

Thank you for your review. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed the collaborative atmosphere, and valued initiatives like the Frontiers Planet Prize, which are so important to our mission. We understand your concerns about rapid changes, but we are an agile organization in an ever-changing market - this means we need to adapt frequently to respond. Our leadership team works hard to balance having strategic oversight with empowering their teams to make decisions. We take on board your suggestion about wider external representation - thanks for sharing.

Pros

Remote and Good work/life balance

Cons

Lack of transparency and attitude to compliance is abysmal. If changes are not implemented, it is scary to think on the consequences.

Thank you for your feedback and appreciation of our work-life balance. Our senior leaders are exceptionally transparent and there is 2-way communication with all teams across multiple channels at weekly, monthly and quarterly meetings. Their decisions are data driven, made in conjunction with the relevant departments, documented and open for all employees to see - and they have led Frontiers to become one of the largest and most impactful publishers in the world.
