Pros

Flexible working hours. Well located. Nice building

Cons

Very unprofessional people, most of the managers got their management skills working at Frontiers, it doesn't mean that is that bad, it does mean that they don't know how to manage a team. There is no couching and the ego's are the prevalence. I saw good people leaving the company because of their managers I also saw people going in burnt out. HR doesn't work! How can someone of HR department talk about other colleagues and create rumours so openly with the employees? They don't care about the wellness of their employees either about the working atmosphere; seems like some people are VIP and the others just ordinary people. The favouritism between English and Italian people is so obvious and sometimes that creates an atmosphere of discrimination. I couldn't find another place with a such unprofessional people.

Pros

- Coworkers in the office are with no exception very approachable, professional and friendly. - The products under development are generally interesting and have impact for internal users and authors+reviewers+readers using frontiersin.org. - Company mission (making science open) is motivating. - Work-life balance is more than fair, and there's some room for time flexibility or occasionally work from home or from other Frontiers' sites (e.g. Lausanne, London). - Wide spectrum of technologies employed. - Comfortable office and good hardware equipment for employees.

Cons

- Limited communication and knowledge sharing between teams working on different projects - Product managers and teammates/coworkers are sitting in Lausanne, and this can be frustrating at times - No structured programs for personal development - Headcount not increasing as fast as other sites - International/larger companies can offer a more well-rounded compensation package
