Good culture, no clear career path

Pros

Culture: I really enjoyed the company culture at TikTok, it is very inclusive and generally very flexible although that could depend on department you are in. Most people are very friendly and easy to approach. Perks: There were also a lot of non salary related benefits such as free snack, coffee, lunch on site etc. Office: The office is super modern, in a good location and conventient.

Cons

Career prospects: Depending on the department and location, there is very limited and little or I would even say no room for growth in terms of career progression. Only a handful of people get title changes or promotions , if you get stuck in a role you could spend over 2-3 years there without getting a raise or being promoted. No opportunity to gain technical skills: Again, it depends on the department but there tends to be very little investment in employee education and opprtunity to learn more techical skills on the job. This could close of a lot of future career opportunities for someone who is not able to progress further from a position.

HUGE SHAMBELS !!

Pros

Multicultural teams add to the job and create a great working environment, Office locations and facilities are good compared to other tech companies but won't match tech giants e.g. Alphabet, Meta, Etc...

Cons

Lack of personal development within the company specially with Middle management being vastly accelerated to higher positions with a lack of experience and often lack of language skills, Making it very hard to communicate effectively and get your expectations clear to the higher management. Low salaries compared to other tech companies and huge micro-management which creates a very unpleasant working environment. Discriminatory treatment with no action taken by HR or the company ETHICS office.

Pros

The people on your team

Cons

Leadership. Hands down one of the least effective and impressive leadership teams out there. From top down it is people who should not be in these positions. Random decrees that have no applicability to the business. The “CXO” just watches the internal bot app tracking return to office. Extremely low pay and no way to ever get an increase. They will gaslight you for as long as possible dangling carrots but never ever getting a real compensation increase. No career growth. App to literally track people coming to the office. They talk about culture but it’s non existent. Constant work with 0 recognition. It’s always why not do more. They give teams homework as if our job wasn’t enough to do.
