Pros

telecom a stable industry, great growth potential. transfer within company encouraged good benefit package (thought not as good as before) free cellphone (even better you get an world phone if you are manager and up)

Cons

recognition and promotion most time dictated rather than based on adequate performance review non prime location, average salary hate exec always say everything is ok, we're doing a great job when actually is not. also senior execs are too conservative to implement changes below bar cross team cooperation huge difference between teams marketing, finance, tbs get the most glory (and money) so go for it if you can get in these dept.

Pros

Their wages are competitive. But if you want anything else such as career advancement, recognition, training or to be able to take time off when you need it (I mean really need it) forget about it. Go work somewhere else.

Cons

"You are lucky to have a job here" attitude as apposed to "We are glad to have you". Bad/inexperienced management (mostly bad, unfair, short-sighted). No career advancement. Zero recognition. Spotty training. Unable to get time off as any reasonable company that appreciates employees would allow. It's very common to tell you on a Friday afternoon that Monday morning you have been reassigned and will be working somewhere else. Recently they moved 17 people's jobs to Alberta and gave the current employees 1 week's notice, told them to find their own jobs within the company. Young people if you are starting your career choose some other company.

Pros

Some positions are very laxed. Good if you enjoy work life balance. Pay for performance. If you work hard and smart you will be noticed. Telus is trying their best to improve engagement. But you cannot expect a lot from any TELCO. New graduates may like the new grad program, but don't get stuck in some boring areas.

Cons

No career advancement or progression is very slow. Must have lots of patience. The amount of work you do is reflective in your pay. Don't get stuck in a bad position. Do your homework before taking on any position. If you just need a job, then make sure you network a lot. People skills are important here. Technical knowledge in engineering/IT positions are VERY valued. If you have technical and people skills, you will advance in due time. Variable pay is good, but is tied too closely to overall company/market performance which is often out of your control. Benefits were not as good as before. Stock options are gone unless your an executive. Engineers are compensated well (moving up), but has been low compared to the market for the past few years. Turn over is still higher than it should be.
