Pros

Work/Life balance -- they allow you to maintain a family/personal life very easily, which work doesn't interfere with. Colleagues are fun in and out of work. Hours are acceptable. Free cell phone. Occasionally pursues interesting initiatives that sometimes lead to interesting work opportunities in the community or with other firms. They allow time off when needed.

Cons

Senior management thought leadership is lacking. Not given the resources to complete the job, and constantly questioned when you do spend. Recognition is scarce, and often overlooked. No perks like at other high-tech firms - no gym, no free food, no free drinks, etc. The quality of the employees are not top-notch. Is a "you-scratch-my-back-I/'ll-scratch-yours" culture. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING (and it's in the suburbs of Toronto, not in the downtown city center, and it's NOT subsidized)! Un-freakin-believable. Raises are ridiculously low -- below inflation.

Pros

I think the best reason to work for TELUS would be the way they truly believe in Give where you live. Iknow of a lot of other companies that say that they like to give back where they live but TELUS truly does that. It seems like every time I read the newspaper or everyweek there is something new that we are doing at work to benefit different organizations with the community in which we live and work. That is just a major perk and benefit of working for TELUS. Other amazing reasons to work for TELUS would be the benefits package, the rate of pay, the perks like discounts and sales compensation and recognition plan but best of all would be the people that I work with and work for.

Cons

I think the biggest downside of working for TELUS would be the lack of flexability to balance work and home life. I work a lot of overtime and when I first started I could take my overtime as holidays but that hasn't been an option for over a couple of years. It is very hard to take time off for family events if they are spur of the moment and hadn't been planned when vacation was booked at the begining of the year. The only other downside that I can think of is the difference in shifts. With a home life and a child at home it is very hard for daycare to work a late 12-8 shift or on the weekends.

Pros

Telus is for the most part a respectable company, and i was proud to say i worked for them. They had special days every month where they catered in food, and it was fairly easy to get an hour or so of developmental time.

Cons

Working within such a big company, it is not hard to feel unimportant or unappreciated. I felt i was just a body, and that they didn't really care as long as i was at work. As a 24/7 operator, i felt there was no time for a life, or even time off when i wanted it. They would hold functions to help "balance" work and life, but i was never able to go since i had to work and they wouldn't give me the time off. I do understand that it is a call center, and someone has to do it. But still...
