Pros

Big & stable company. OK pay & benefits Some good managers & co-workers WFH

Cons

Too many to list. I left my old stable job for Telus, which turned out to be the biggest mistake in my career. - team morale&culture. this could depend on different teams. My team had very low morale and high turnover. Half of the members left the company in my first 6 months with the team, as a result, the remaining staff's workload got doubled/tripled. every thing is about work work work, no casual talks. The department director loves micro-managing people and never realized people are leaving because of this. Team culture is toxic. The annual pulse check is a joke. - frequent unnecessary re-orgs. Re-org every few months with no clear direction. lots of turnover even in senior management. They say it's ever changing environment, I say it's a mess. - unsustainable growth. Growth through acquiring bunch of messy small private companies with the aim to add more revenue/EBITDA into the main Telus body. Little to no integration post M&A leads to huge disconnection between Telus and the acquired entities. The senior management say they are building a tech company, I say it's a revenue/EBITDA company. - work/life balance. don't expect it. The management set all those unnecessarily tight deadlines for you. You are expected to work around the clock. Yes, you do have PTO but you'll find you can only use 1 day or 2 here and there. wanna take a couple week off? no way. Some good people constantly work 10+hrs a day, 7 days/week and finally get burned out and quit. - promotion. Hardwork/performance doesn't guarantee a promotion. Favouritism dominates. External hire is more welcome than internal promotion. Even if you are lucky enough to get a promotion, the pay increase is a joke considering the additional responsibilities you will be taking. - others. your typical large corp red tape and politics. The C-level executives get paid millions of dollars every year while the annual pay increase for staff is just 1-2% (current inflation is 8%). Management like taking credits from staff so they can keep their fat pay/bonus cheques.

Pros

-work from home is permanent with no office time required -lots of autonomy/freedom in how you do your work -massive company with massive datasets, so it’s a good opportunity for data professionals who are interested in big data

Cons

-too many re-orgs - there is at least one a year -management is disorganized -no centralized data strategy or asset management system - ie use data at your own risk -little to no on-boarding for new employees, therefore senior employees spend too much time training juniors -low pay
