Pros

Strong brands in some categories. Pockets of sound visionary leadership who can handle the truth and who can develop the business AND people.

Cons

Promoting people in sales and marketing beyond their experience and potential to add value beyond the "yes man" role for senior leaders. Difficult culture and company to on-board with - no clear on-boarding or training commitment.

Pros

great benefits, great people, good work, seemingly stable

Cons

layoffs happen, location limits options when they do. Advice for others - - treat this like any other large CPG, don't buy the 'family company' line, you are a cog in the machine, I got fooled.

Pros

1) Loads of experience 2) Well regarded in the CPG circle- easy to get a job interviews/jobs when you plan to quit the company 3) They have a lot of committees within the company- so it is easy to get involved in all of these committees and develop your communication skills.

Cons

1) If you are a person of a minority group- you may want to avoid this company- many people working within this company have very little travel experience. Unfortunately, often they are ignorant of other cultures and view them suspiciously. Very often they ask very offending questions and already have a viewpoint of a culture even before getting to know them. 2) There are some people who are marked as "superstars"- no matter what a mess of things they make, senior management continues to promote them. On the other hand, senior management refuses to work on people are are willing to work hard and want to develop their skill set. Its a sad state of affairs- things only got worse with the recession setting in. 3) Not a culture where one can trust people. I worked in Finance for quite a few years and ended up leaving the company in 2009 because I was so frustrated. They place too much importance in a person being aggressive without giving them the tools to get ahead. They basically do not believe in investing their people, although they say they do- infact they don't. This is infact the most common complaint for many people working in the company. 4) They are obsessed about winning the war against P&G and this is the company's #1 priority. Unfortunately, this has led to a lot of bad decision making by senior management in the recent past. 5) They are located in the middle of nowhere- BRANTFORD- most Canadians don't seem to know where that is. The town is small, with lots of poor people, bums on streets and unsafe neighbourhoods.
