Pros

Good base salary for sales people

Cons

Remote.com has potential, but the way the company is currently run makes it difficult for employees—or the business itself—to thrive. Leadership lacks a coherent long-term strategy, which shows up in constant changes to compensation, pricing, and sales processes. Instead of building clarity and consistency, the focus seems to be on short-term targets at any cost. The culture is unhealthy and often toxic. Management cycles through hires quickly, rarely developing talent beyond a transactional level. As a result, the company struggles to attract and retain strong performers, and teams are often left without the resources they need. The sales organization, in particular, is set up for frustration. Quotas shift, comp plans are restructured every quarter, and salespeople are held responsible for factors outside their control—including customer churn, which can even impact their base pay. On top of that, sales teams are expected to juggle multiple roles, from customer success to subject-matter expertise, without adequate support from marketing or operations. Ultimately, the biggest blocker is the leadership team itself. Ego-driven decision-making creates unnecessary complexity, stifles growth, and prevents the company from realizing its potential. Until there is a real change at the top, Remote.com will continue to operate in a cycle of instability and underperformance.

We’re glad to hear your positive feedback about base compensation for sales team members. At the same time, we recognize there are areas within sales, such as consistency in processes and support for the team, that require continued attention as the company grows. Pros

Flexibility working remotely and live where you want to live

Cons

In 2023 the CRO left the company together with other senior managers. The interims are completely destroying the organisation. Sales was built up to succeed last year and sudden changes and bullying from the most senior leadership is making it impossible to be happy at this company and be successful in the role. The quotas are set too high and are not achievable. To not hit quota will then stand against you in a performance review and hinder you from any pay rises or promotions. The sales org is led by a co-founder who has never worked in sales and has no clue what to do and decisions are implemented based on nothing but wanting to be in power. Language used towards employees is absolutely abusive and not acceptable. If you want to work somewhere where you want to feel like you cannot freely express your opinion without being punished and where you have no career progression opportunities, you should join remote. It’s a place where you will thrive if you like daily changes, rules that are being ignored by senior management and like feeling fear of the co-founder. Middle management and sales reps are truly working hard to do everything to make it successful and the most senior leader in sales is doing everything in their power to destroy it and make sure that no one gets rewarded.

We appreciate your honesty and your commitment to helping Remote improve. Over the past year, Remote has put significant effort into evolving our Go-to-Market strategy. Like any major change process, we understand that it’s led to some pressure and uncertainty, but we’re proud of the progress we’ve made. In particular, we’re excited to have a new, experienced CRO in place to bring our team to its true potential. Thank you for your feedback, which we take seriously. We're committed to fostering an environment where every team member feels valued, heard, and respected. Please feel free to reach out to your manager if you wish to discuss these topics further.

Pros

work from anywhere somewhat flexible work schedule

Cons

- badly run, unreliable company - middle management very poor, inexperienced unsupportive with questionable integrity and business ethics - cut throat sales environment where stealing and dodgy dealings is tolerated, ignored and not being escalated to senior leadership to deal with. Senior leadership oblivious or not being aware what is actually going on in business - constant issues with pay for internal employees and clients - very mean and stingy company: no company get togethers, business trips/ events you have to pay for out of your own pocket. if you want to attend a business event, pay yourself or else all the leads will go to the reps who attended - poor benefits, no pension, no company phone or allowance, no paying for your internet, etc - company values of kindness and transparency are just empty words, experienced quite the opposite - very poor business planning. overhired irresponsibly without proper planning then had to let 10% go in a heartless fashion.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, though it makes for difficult reading. As CRO, my job is to help you and everyone else in our sales organization to be successful. To me - there are a few key parts to this: 1. Establishing a clear vision and direction for our team 1. Offering the right coaching and guidance for us to improve 2. Creating a culture that supports teamwork and enables high performance 3. Ensuring everyone feels motivated by the opportunities in front of them—financially and professionally. It sounds like you don’t feel this has been your experience and I’m disappointed to hear that. I’m not sure what you’ve experienced in relation to a “cut throat” environment, but I would say unequivocally that there is no place in our team for behavior which lacks integrity. This is entirely contrary to our values and the type of team we need to be to achieve high-performance. I hope you will feel empowered to approach me directly with your concerns. As a venture-backed business, we are subject to some practical constraints regarding cost—particularly in the current economic climate. We strive to offer equitable benefits packages to our global workforce so that everyone, regardless of where they are based, receive access to a similar level of support from the company. We also offer a number of perks including flexible work hours, unlimited PTO, learning and development funds, co-working allowance, mental health support and funds to engage socially with other Remoters. I certainly do not expect anyone to pay out of pocket to work at a Remote sponsored event and we’ve updated our policy to make that clear. If this has happened for you please submit a reimbursement request and I’ll ensure it’s approved. Regarding business planning, as a company and a Sales team, we’re bringing more structure and rigor to this than we have in the past. I don’t think anyone anticipated a need to reduce headcount this year given our incredible growth to date—but market conditions have changed and we have to adapt to them, just like any other business. Taking the decision to restructure the business was not something we took lightly, but was ultimately needed given the way in which the environment has changed. As i’ve mentioned before, we have a lot of work ahead of us if we’re to achieve our aspirations as a Sales organization and a company. And there’s certainly a number of areas where we can and should improve as a team. But I’m optimistic about our future prospects - because distributed work is here to stay - and excited for us to unlock our full potential, as we’re uniquely placed to help companies around the world unlock the benefits of remote teams. Chris, CRO.
