Pros

Decent pay and good benefits. Great co-workers. Many employees have been with the company for 10 years or more demonstrating a long history of treating their employees well.

Cons

However, many, many senior level long term employees have "retired" or been reorganized out over the last couple of years. And the limited number of promotion opportunities appear to be filled from external, rather than internal resources lately. Employees are being asked to take on responsibilities of multiple former full time employees who have departed. Bonuses were lowered and salary stagnant. So, in summary, a lot of corporate historical knowledge has been lost, limited chances for advancement, working longer and harder for less reward. Hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel that is not a train coming in my direction

Pros

A company that genuinely tries to the right thing, provided that it's not too difficult. Very good compensation and benefits programs. Pleasant working conditions, provided that you have an effective leader (see below).

Cons

Wide differences in leadership capabilities and effectiveness across the firm. The single biggest problem I've seen over the years is the fact that the company has a habit/history of tolerating really bad leaders if they bring other skills to the table.

Pros

They give you some leads to work with but they are minimal and low quality. The quarterly bonus is generous in your first year but drops off drastically after that. The health benefits and 401k match are good.

Cons

Training program is terrible. They do not know how to teach true financial advising and just try to push high fee annuities to fit every clients need. The office is a revolving door that no one that has been there for longer than two years, unless they had already been there 20+ years. The office is also a graveyard, so there is no one ever there to answer any questions that knows what they are doing. Even when someone is there to answer a question, upper management usually doesn't know the answer and they tell you to call the corporate agent line and ask them which is extremely inefficient. Upper management claims during the interview process they have more leads than you could ever call, but this is an exorbitant exaggeration. They only have a limited number of "leads" so they photo copy them and hand them out to multiple people. Many times the leads are extremely angry because, "you are the 10th person that has called today!" Then they hang up the phone. Stay away from this company in Mass and RI because they are run by the same management.
