Great at first then steep decline

Pros

- Salary is pretty competitive, although large discrepancies between external and internal recruitment - immediate managers are generally intuitive and supportive within the framework offered - true remote working model - UK company perks such as life assurance, medical are very good

Cons

- company restructure was handled really poorly, with little concern for welfare outside of “refer to our support document or email the support email.” Changes in discussion to final offers - workloads are stressful and not viable long term resulting in vast scale sickness, stress and unhappiness - long work hours, with no leui time. There is an expectation to work outside of hours including weekends - matrix structure is confusing with newly graduated managers with no Management experience heading these up - repeated U-turns that give whiplash to the whole company

Thank you for you feedback. We are sorry to hear that you didn't feel the restructure was handled well. These processes are exceptionally difficult and we worked very hard to communicate multiple times a week, while simultaneously abiding by local regulations in over 20 countries. Day-to-day, we are fast-moving company and we do adapt to market changes quickly and decisively. We'd like to clarify that no employee is ever expected to work longer than 40 hours per week and certainly never on weekends. Some positives but also fundamental problems

Pros

- The company is a great example of how to get remote work right. I very rarely felt that I missed out by not being in an office-based or hybrid company. - The vast majority of staff are friendly, professional and well-meaning. People go out of their way to help each other. - A healthy approach to work-life balance. - Generally ok-to-good salaries and benefits for the industry (despite recent low pay rises).

Cons

This company has a lot of problems and unfortunately I don't see how it will overcome them. - As far as I can tell, the senior leadership and managers are mostly inexperienced in the publishing industry and at running a fairly large company. They also micromanage to a really surprising degree, meaning senior leadership over-rule and undermine more experienced/knowledgeable team members or generally get involved in tasks and decisions you wouldn't expect them to. - This company does not seem to do long-term strategy or planning. This means each year (or more frequently) a whole new set of targets appear that often have little to do with last year's (and sometimes directly contradict them). There is then huge momentum towards these targets and often insufficient review of their success or ongoing relevance. - Completely unrealistic deadlines at times, and a general seeming addiction to chaos or inability to avoid it.

Thank you for your thoughts about work-life balance - our employees' wellbeing is really important to us. Responding to a fast-changing market means that our strategy must remain agile. A lot of thought and planning goes into all of our strategies and targets, which are set in collaboration with each team head or manager. We will take your feedback on board and consider how we can communicate this process even more clearly to all employees.

Pros

I find remote work to be a particularly enjoyable experience, as it allows me the flexibility to work from anywhere I choose. Additionally, I have the privilege to work alongside a team of highly skilled professionals who are equally passionate about their work. The team environment is one that fosters collaboration, creativity, and mutual respect, and I find it to be incredibly motivating. .

Cons

The upper management of our company seems to be out of touch with the base layers of the organization. There is a clear disconnect between the top and bottom tiers, and this has resulted in a series of changes in strategy that have left many employees confused and disoriented. The frequent changes in approach and direction have made it difficult for us to stay on track and deliver results. It would be helpful if the upper management could take a more collaborative approach and involve the lower levels in the decision-making process. This would not only improve communication and transparency, but also ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards a common goal.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that our remote work policy and team environment have been positive aspects of your experience at Frontiers. We're sorry to hear you feel disconnected. Our managers make every effort to listen to, and take on board feedback from all employees. However, we want to improve and we're putting in place new initiatives for employee listening and collaboration in 2024. Your suggestion for more inclusive decision-making is valuable.
