Pros

The work is often interesting and you get to work with interesting and intelligent colleagues from all sorts of backgrounds. Lots of travel opportunities and generally decent working hours and work/life balance. Can be a good place to start out for a couple of years if you're interested in security and international affairs.

Cons

Uncompetitive salaries and really terrible management with limited vision. Pay and promotions seem to be arbitrary, not based on performance or merit. Good performance tends to get rewarded with a pat on the back but not remuneration or promotion. Career development is limited. There's a huge churn rate - most talented people don't stay more than two or three years.

Pros

Good work/ life balance, N/a

Cons

The HR function is extremely unwelcoming to new joiners (unless joining at the top level). There is clearly an established clique of people who have been there years and they have no interest in getting to know/involving anyone newly incoming. People seem to be in roles due to their tenure with the company rather than based on competency. Pay packets are very low compared to market rates, benefits are awful and the company doesn't care about employee wellbeing. Toxic working culture with more junior members of the team being made feel like they have to stay past their working hours, even when their work is finished. No investment, systems are severely outdated which puts significant strain on employees trying to do work that a system could do in seconds. Management are completely incompetent, however, there is no investment into training. Very little discretion, people will take sensitive calls and have private discussions in the common HR area for everyone to hear. Employees outside HR are lovely.
