I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Jul 2013
Interview
Interview process was fairly short, considering my first phone call was with a recruiter through LinkedIn. Though the recruiter said they were going to let me know about more information about Target, the phone call ended up being an interview which led to the next phone interview. Following the 2nd phone interview was an in-person, at store interview with a Store Leader, a District Leader, and the District Leader's HR Assistant and finally a final phone call interview with the Group Director.
The process was fairly straight-forward. They mainly asked behavior-based questions which are questions that look for examples of when you handled a situation, how you handled it, and what were the outcomes/what did you learn from those situations. They asked a variety of questions from a time I had to be creative to solve a task to a time I had to discuss an uncomfortable issue or topic and have people come to a consensus. While the in-person interview probably had more communication as to what questions would be asked (so they were not the same), I believe the phone interviewers did not know what answers I gave to my previous questions as they gave feedback on my answers and letting me know I should or should not use certain answers for future interviews.
The interviewers were all very energetic, kind, and representative of Target's mission and philosophy to have fun while "pushing toilet paper." They expressed a great deal of interest in staying with the company though I was fairly surprised at how young most employees were at the management level and how short they had stayed with Target (Store Leader was with Target for 6 or 7 years total).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
When was the last time you talked to or approached a stranger and what was it for? This question was asked after all the other questions for the interview were asked that required the interviewers to take notes... I believe it was an attempt to probe into how comfortable I am at talking to guests but definitely was not a behavior-based question which caught me by surprise (though really it is not a tough question to answer).
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Target
Interview
Had a phone interview then interviewed with a near by Store Team Leader, followed by interview with District Manager. Was called About 1 or 2 weeks later to tell me I had been hired. Went and had a drug test and began orientation and 6weeks training program (business college)

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Target (Dallas, TX) in Jun 2012
Interview
The interview process is very long. It can last 3 months or longer. I received an initial phone screen. It took about 3 weeks before I found out with who and where I would be interviewing. It took about another week to determine a time to meet my interviewer. Be sure to bring copies of your resume and CV as they had an old and out dated resume of mine even though I emailed the recruiter multiple times with my up to date resume (the other one was out dated by 4 years). After I had the initial interview I was asked to attend another round of interviews at the district and group offices. In this round there were four people I interviewed with. The first two were STLs from the group, the next was the DTL I would be working for, and the final was the HR business partner. Most other people met with the Group Leader. It took about two days before I heard back from the recruiter with an offer. They offered me an amount that came in lower than I was initially promised. I asked for the original amount, they countered with salary half way between what I asked and their initial offer. I accepted. It took another 3 weeks before I found out where I would start training.
