I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Rippling in Jun 2021
Interview
1st call from a manager 1 months ago
2nd call from a recruiter 2 weeks after 1st manager
Then multiple interview (3+ hours) same day
2 interviewers made ageist comments. Told work would be 13+ hours and unlimited PTO, however that in reality you can really take much PTO.
Everyone that interviewed me has been working on the company for less than 2 years and have a resume that is all over the place with no loyalty or company commitment.
Do not apply if you are over 40 years old.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Asked the same questions, very generic.
Would you be able to take criticism given all your experience?
Why do you want to work for a startup company?
Are you willing to work 13+ hours a day? and Weekends? and all hours?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rippling (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2021
Interview
Probably the worst interview experience I ever had. So much that I was in fact annoyed by the end and didn't bother to ask any questions.
All three interviewers came unprepared.
Interviewer 1: Could not explain the problem statement even after asking and verifying each time I had to change my algo three times.
Interviewer 2 : Kept cutting me off during a system design. Gave minimal requirements but still kept saying my approach is wrong.
Interviewer 3: Kept going back and forth on the ask. Wanted backend to drive the UI. Are you serious?
All three interviewers were looking for the only solution the knew to the problem and any other approach was deemed incorrect. A bit arrogant if you ask me.

Interview
Waste, Waste and Waste.
part-1
Its a complete waste of your time. HRs are pretty immature. After 2 rounds, which went pretty good, they suddenly asked for salary details and expectation. 3 interviews were pending but after just 1 additional interview, all the remaining interview got cancelled. I quickly called HR, she got nervous, she said 1 round didnt go very well, the head HR would contact for details and cut the call. I didnt receive any call after that.
All the interviews went pretty good, interviewers themselves said that they are satisfied with solution.
I am sure that they realised that they cannot give hike or cannt meet expectation. They are just mass interviewing people without looking at their current salary and expectation. That would result in waste of you precious time.
part-2
you may be surprised to see that 2-4 years experience guys are taking 15 years exp guy interviews. Interviewers are theoretically & technically good but they lack some of system design aspects because they have not seen or face real production design issues and dont have real exp of seeing/doing much of design work. They are immature in that. So stick to basic theoretical design if you want to make them happy ( thats what i did :) )
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. given a json, which contains list of employee objects, do some aggregation ( like average salary of employee), do it in object oriented way.
2. how do you design user impersonation ( test user ). The test user should have same exp as real. also how do you make sure that the test user has just read only access not write acces.
3. system design - u r receiving events from mobile and other devices ( like user click event) , design a system which will retrieve and process these events and support queries like get histo of number of clicks per hour over last 24 hours. Design fault tolerant, scalable, HA , low latency etc, etc very theoretical :) . follow up - how do you design client sdk which would take care of server not reachable or spike in system
