Pros

I absolutely love my team. We have some incredibly bright and driven people at Upwork that could play a crucial role in taking this organization to the next level.

Cons

Unfortunately, I’m at a breaking point. I’m handcuffed to my desk 24/7 writing and editing weekly updates to our C-Suite, drafting Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly business reviews. And, when this is done, I’ll spend the rest of my night responding to the commentary. I have zero time for my team, zero time to make progress towards anything strategic or long term and am at the mercy of short-term, knee jerk reactions prescribed by our leader that doesn’t seem to trust the team they put in place to run this business.

Pros

There are a lot of great things about working here that I think are being watered down in reviews, so I feel the need to weigh in. Great benefits, paid parental leave, flexible work schedule and fully remote without any concern of being called back in to the office (which is HUGE for a working parent). Unlimited PTO, and encouraged to take your vacation time. I'm working in tech with some of the brightest people I have ever worked with, and I can do that without moving my family to a super expensive city. I think the platform itself is amazing - we provide the opportunity for people around the world to get jobs that they never would have had access to otherwise. There are people in Ukraine supporting their families using Upwork. It's rare to work for a company with a mission you can get behind.

Cons

There are areas for improvement, like career pathing (which I believe is being worked on). Like other people have mentioned, we have had to pivot quickly and change direction in the last couple of years. But to be fair, this is one of the craziest economic times in recent history, so I think some adjustment in direction is to be expected. Overall, this is still a great company with a really bright future.

Pros

Not only do we work for an incredibly impactful company but they also take more care of their employees than almost any other company. Rated the best place to work in Chicago, it definitely rings true. Free lunch, breakfast, stocked kitchen, drinks on tap, aggressive employee stock purchase program), stock options, and more. We are shaping the strategy of the company and working with executives from some of the largest companies in the world. The caliber of talent here is barred none. I've been here for a little over two years and as long as we keep our eye on the prize, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Cons

Since we are growing so fast, a few hires have slipped through the cracks. Stay selective in the interview process. Most people are extremely happy here but negative attitudes can taint the well. It's expected in a sales environment but nip negative attitudes in the bud as soon as possible.
