Pros

The only pros were the equipment to do daily tasks and the benefits. The team I was assigned was somewhat helpful when it mattered.

Cons

Well, I was only there for 5 months. I was laid off right before Thanksgiving. I thought the team was pretty supportive at first however once I was laid off, I didn’t hear from any of them except one person. The manager didn’t even reach out even though he has my number. They did preach about how the team felt like family but actions speak louder than words. Our manager always said the job wasn’t a call center but that’s literally 90% of the job. Kept referring to us as “agents”. A bit contradicting. The job was just a glorified call center. I can honestly say I wasn’t there long enough to even put anything on my resume. I wish I would’ve kept looking for a different opportunity because this was a waste of time and effort.

Pros

Benefits are fair, hybrid workplace, bonus depending on performance

Cons

Employees are now treated as mere numbers, pressure from management is too much, increase almost never happens, lay-off here and there. There is a revolving door of employees. CEO and leadership are very out of touch

Like so many organizations, UL Solutions has gone through accelerated change to adapt to the market needs. In addition, in 2012 we transitioned from a not-for-profit entity and have needed to make changes to the business to align to this change. We have engagement surveys, pulse surveys, town hall Q&A, CEO briefings and more to communicate directly with employees. Thank you for sharing this feedback.

Pros

They have a solid mission that has held up for over 100 years.

Cons

They put on a VERY good ’show’ of appearances as a forward paced organization however once you’re in and I mean like day one, you realize how horribly disorganized the entire organization is. I was shocked at the lack of accountability for mismanagement of people, processes, and business finances. Company invested substantially in office remodeling and new Chicago Loop office in excess to a level of irresistible financial spending. If you want to step back in time 20 years for a retro technology experience, this is the place! Systems are so outdated that it is like going back in time when things took months to get completed or fixed. That’s their normal here and they (many with 15-30 year tenure) seem to be okay with it. Complacency is a common employee performance description. They, seem to be okay with that also. Upper management and executives are embarrassingly inexperienced in their roles. Also a big facade on the diversity front. Female CEO and that’s about it! Don’t get fooled by the facade. Pass this one up, it is not a career growth opportunity.
