Pros

Not having to worry what to wear; TSP (401k) savings Not too many pros if you actually work and have a good work ethic.

Cons

Lazy, clueless co workers, including the leads, supervisors, and managers. Nothing gets accomplished after any “investigation”. Everything stays the same because most people there don’t speak up when they should. Why? Because these people they are lazy and don’t care. TSA hires anyone and it definitely showed. People are promoted because they can talk during an interview. It doesn’t matter how they actually work on the floor. No one cares. Everyone is just worried about being liked. It’s very high school. If you actually work and do your job right, you will be harassed and certain people (women!) will try and get you “in trouble”. Nothing gets done / resolves if you have an issue and speak to management and / or HR.

Pros

They allow you to trade shifts, which makes this job very flexible.

Cons

Very unorganized for it to be a government agency. In order to move up you will have to play kiss butt, there's a lot of favoritism. I would avoid working there, especially if you'd like to remain in the government.

Pros

Great benefits, available pension, ability to change schedules, part time people have the same benefits offered to them as full time for the same cost. A lot of people stay for the benefits and the ability to change schedules every six months.

Cons

Constant testing, early or late hours, no holidays off or weekends, limited time off during the year, you must apply for time off a year in advance, constant turnover, the traveling public dislikes you. It is very difficult to take vacation time because the calendar is never open. They can mandatory you to stay past your shift regardless of what you may have planned and threaten disciplinary action if you do not comply. Its impossible to fire someone so the bad employees that would be fired anywhere else are always employed. The Union is a joke and does nothing for the workforce no matter what airport you are working at. You are constantly being watched on CCTV for any type of violation. There is no team atmosphere and you are always being micro-managed. Very monotonous and boring. If you are new you will likely not get any vacation days your first year although you are accumulating days every pay period. When the calendar opens up and you can ask for days off they black them out and say we are short staffed and can not allow anymore people to take off. Overall its very poorly run and no fix is in sight.
