Pros

You become trauma bonded with your coworkers and create lifelong friendships as you suffer in this job together. Taking a paycheck that is higher than any other entry-level job, but being the only reason you stay. And of course, the government benefits are nice

Cons

You are hated by the public and headquarters. And you get constant changes in how to do your job. They hire whoever they can because they can not keep anyone. They promote based on testing that can easily be copied and shared there for allowing the promotion of the most incompetent people. Working smarter, not harder is not a thing in this job. They do not what you use critical thinking. they want you to follow SOP. Except when the SOP doesn't work, then you get in trouble for not using critical thinking. I have never gotten in trouble in this job I served 4 years. But I watch the dumb stuff that doesn't make sense happen around me, all the time.

Pros

The work is not bad. It can be a little challenging but nothing absurd.

Cons

The fact that you have to park outside of the airport is ridiculous! You are required to park 30 minutes away in a parking lot and wait for a bus to pick you up. Every day, you are pretty much working 1 hour for free. With that said, NEVER BE LATE! They will make you use your vacation hours even if you`re 10min late. The whole culture is wrong. I had 6 managers the during my time there. I can Honestly say that only 2 of them actually care about you. Trying to get a day off is ALWAYS the same problem even if you have the hours to use. When you asked a manager, they will tell you to ask the Scheduling dept. When you call Scheduling dept, they`ll tell you to talk to your management. They`ll only promote and help the ones the like. Doesn't matter how hard you work, if another person is their friend, you are not going anywhere. It can be a good place to work but like most places, management makes it bad.

Pros

Benefits and is a way to get your foot in the door for other federal jobs.

Cons

Hours, supervision. Very disorganized and lack of communication between, management, supervisors and employees. You ask the same question to five different people and you will get five different answers. I found it to be one of the most unprofessional places I ever worked. Before I started working with TSA, I hear/read that TSA is the McDonalds of Federal Employment and I felt that was unfair and probably bias. However, I can tell you that there is a lot of truth in that. I submitted my resignation and this week is my last week. There is an old saying that says that when you stay at a place for long, you become that place. I did not want to become that place.
