Pros

-Pay is above the typical everyday jobs (but they're slowly catching up!) -Working with people from all different backgrounds and experiences -A LOT of opportunities for promotions -On TSA Appreciation Day, managers reward you with candy and little snacks for your hard work throughout a pandemic /s

Cons

-Lazy people gets away with almost everything -Being a "good" or "hard working" employee rarely gets noticed / rewarded -The majority of managers don't come off approachable or friendly, you often feel like you're annoying them with any sort of request. -Depending on where you live, the daily commute can be a struggle. Don't be surprised if you have to dedicate 11-12hrs a day from leaving your house to getting home.

Pros

Retirement benefits are a Plus.

Cons

Lay low. Nobody is your friend. You will get reported even if you did nothing wrong, so somebody can get ahead on your back. Managers and supervisors will do nothing/or the bare minimum of a shrug to help you …. even if you have a significant issue. Vacation Time is impossible, they only allocate a certain amount of people per day off. Even if your vacation was booked prior to your entry on duty, if it makes the airport look bad to have too many off on any day-they will not approve your vacation. If it makes the airport look bad they do not care you do not get to do anything. You are no longer human, you are just a number. There is significant favoritism, and if you are not a favorite you are pretty much screwed. If you are in the minority in your airport, and the morale is bad, there’s nothing you can do to Lay low. The officers will gang up on you, yell at you and make fun of you. They practice a pretty strong cold shoulder when they aren’t being actively verbally aggressive.

Pros

Gained a better understanding of the travelers point of view vs. TSO view. Research before you fly. Knowledge is powerful.

Cons

They don't use the GS government scale, so the salary tends to lack the best value.
