Pros

The company is large, allowing for career choice changes quite easily. TELUS will also do a great deal of onsite / offstie (formal) education if it is needed to fulfill the position that you choose to work in. 40% discount on all services offered by TELUS (telephone, internet, Telus Television, cellular)

Cons

- Shift work for most positions - the health insurance provider (Sunlife) is difficult to deal with, having issues with approving of multiple times (filling out of forms for TELUS Health Services by the attending GP for a long standing issue for example) AND MANAGEMENT KNOWS ABOUT THIS yet the response is 'we have covered what is in the contract with the TWU by providing a company to cover our employees'' - being unionized, it would be thought that seniority would play a large role in the job promotion area, but in my experience it seems to be more of a 'who you know' rather than 'what you know' take - it takes management a long time to react to issues that the front line (the employees that are dealing direct with the public) sees - the company has become 'reactive' rather than being 'procative' with the long term customers, giving the new consumer customers much better deals than customers that have been with the company for long periods of time - dealing with the payroll department to fix issues is a long and drawn out process usually, and the department does not seem to communicate any deductions that might be made due to past errors (many people have been overpaid for days that they have taken off, but rather than taking that same pay off the next pay issued, they accumulate them for a few months and take all of the correctiions off at one time)

Pros

The pay is better than all over call centres, which makes it hard to leave, but at the end of the day do you want somewhere that pays less and makes you happy or pays more and you hate it. TELUS makes you have good pay cheques but not much more. Benefits are great if your full time/part time, but if you're temporary your out of luck and a lot of people are temporary staff member for a long time. You get 40% discount on phone or internet service at home if you work at TELUS and use TELUS services.

Cons

The wrong employees are always recognized, whereas hard work goes unnoticed, favortism in the office place is very accurate of TELUS. The shift work, the night shifts, the random days off cause a lot of tiresome days/nights, as you switch between early to late. Managers are all chummy chummy with other managers, so you can never go to anyone else and expect what you said to be confidential. There are only 25 people in my department so needing specific days/hours is very difficult. In the summer, I was stuck working nites 5 weeks in a row which seems unreasonable and unnececessary.

Pros

do your work and advancement opportunities are there - all you have to do is prove yourself. there is good pretty okay benefits and the pay is great. you have to start from somewhere but even if you start at the bottom from the beginnig if you show that you have the will to work and succeed and grow it will happen. its a great location and although like a lot of call centres there is a lot of turn around there is also a lot of advancement. i have seen people move up in three months to more than 4 dollars more an hour

Cons

hard to get vacation and LOA - even when its valid
