Pros

Challenging and dynamic work environment.

Cons

Impossible to negotiate compensation changes without jumping through a series of increasingly smaller flaming hoops. Best way to increase your salary is do a great job, quit, and come back a year or two later.

Pros

Good benefits package, great inner-city locations of their regional/ corporate offices, and they do give you a lot of training. The Management Team is pretty young, and they do like to have fun. All the Managers do have open-door policies, so you can be pretty open and expressive about anything at the top of your mind. With all the talks about an International recession, I think TELUS is well-positioned to whether the storm, as they offer commodities that this world simply cannot live without; the Shares are. They ask you to career-path with Career Development Plans (it can be argued the extent that that is useful).

Cons

They will act competitive when they want to be (when its in the industry), but they will act like a bureaucracy when it comes to internal support issues (HR, internal communications, etc). Some days it feels next to impossible to get out of the Union, no matter how well you upsell yourself. I sometimes feel that they don't value education very much, because as an internal employee, they don't take your Educational background very seriously. Externally they do, but once you are in a frontline positon, they would rather keep you on the phones taking calls from lousy, upset customers about trivial things, than see you promoted into a more acceptable position. Some days, it just feels very political around the office.

Pros

TELUS pays well compared to similar communication companies in Canada for similar positions. The benefits package is also very good. There is room to grow and TELUS generally promotes from within. Learning is encouraged (tuition reimbursement, although it isn't easy to get approved) and free courses through an internal learning gateway. TELUS also offers discounts on our wireless services. There generally is a positive and open enviroment which makes it easy to provide feedback.

Cons

Some of the negative points about working for TELUS is the workload. There tends to be constant network/system failures which overloads our generally understaffed department. Response times to correct such issues are long, and the company is slow to react (ie. posting an automated message that we are having difficulties). As mentioned above, it is challenging to get approval for any training over and above elearnings. Time off is very difficult to get, again, as we generally are understaffed.
