Pros

Great office, new office is even better than google Japan. Although I joined only a few months ago (2015) I have already made many wonderful friends.

Cons

Most smart people leave within 2 years. Managers cannot understand talent from abroad. People here are extremely domestic, if you have i.e. A Wharton business school degree they will think a Japanese person from a mediocre college is better than you , because the only school they have heard of is Harvard (CEO went to Harvard Business school and constantly brags about it). Managers here don't want smart people who come up with new but potentially risky ideas, they only want loyal slaves who will just do what is asked. Everyone underestimates the impact of cultural difference here and things will be even worse for you if like me you have a Japanese last name but you were raised abroad. I was once even told to stop pretending I am not Japanese just because I did not use Keigo properly, which I wasn't familiar with to start off. Anyway MANY managers are absolutely RACIST but act like they support globalisation only infront of the CEO. Behind Mickey's back they are criticising everything non-Japanese. Absolutely ridiculous. I joined Rakuten with great hopes but am truly disappointed.

Pros

Laptop, Free Food which is not good .

Cons

where to start , 1 India Rakuten center is established for 24/7 monitoring only and only ,whether you have come from Full stack background or Backend you will be handed over a Support Phone and will be asked to do Application Support . All the good development work is routed to japan teams and monitering and support work is being dumped to india 2 .There is no tech stack here just maintenance and Filling up confluence pages and Lot of confluence pages 3 .Strict Timing Culture Like it has been followed in service Companies . 4..Asakai meetings on early monday mornings are just pure headache . 5.Infrastructure is not good , no cabins and some meeting rooms does-not have tables and chairs which can result in regular back pain. 6.You can find micro management in core values in rakuten (they will represent this like our unique culture .) i.e Japanese slave culture . 7.They will trap you by giving you good money (off-course ) on your current offer letter . Last but not the Least if you dont consider my review or thinking i am over exaggerating you will defiantly regret after joining there.

Pros

um well the pro would be that it took them seven years to completely kill and shut down our formerly profitable company...

Cons

Imposed the japanese business model on an american company and like their british aquisition just ran it into the ground and killed it
