Pros

4% match on 401k good low cost index funds in 401k Small pension Up to 30 ptos/year Decent maturity and paternity leave Work from home allowed Work life balance depends on work group

Cons

Leadership turnover in past 5 to 7 years has ushered in a series of bad decision-making which bare out in the bottom line results. I.e. inconsistent strategies, market event reactive instead of firm and steady, extensive use of expensive consultants, over staffing followed by layoffs, ... A hot mess as they say. Discriminatory practices, promotions linked to friendship and nepotism.

Pros

There are many pros that Prudential has that makes it competitive: work/life balance, benefits, bonuses, business casual dress, overall professional atmosphere, highly experienced, friendly, and helpful co-workers, tuition assistance, generous PTO, and the company brand itself. I haven't heard of anyone in the outside world that hasn't heard of Prudential.

Cons

Although I loved this company, Prudential also has several cons which may eventually lead to its overall decline in value; - Massive layoffs of experienced and dedicated employees in favor of outsourcing its talent overseas in order to save money over the short term - The overall compensation is lower than the industry average - The lack of opportunity for advancement - Nepotism - The average worker is overworked and isn't usually compensated well enough for it - The leadership is very hit or miss. Sometimes you have extremely competent and good leaders while others will throw you under the bus to keep their job - This company outsources too many of its positions offshore and makes the average employee constantly fear for his/her job - Senior management is very tone deaf when it comes to listening to employees' legitimate concerns, as it seems that the average employee cares more about the company than the executives do

Good for resume building in the short term, not a long term choice

Pros

Reasonable Fortune brand in insurance industry, good place for working parents who value work life balance

Cons

Not merit driven, too much politics, a lot of long timers, out dated management practice and infrastructure, large portion of middle management in the Group Insurance division needs to go, terrible mafia culture in terms of back stabbing and retaliation, lots of slacking from the long timers
