Great company but...

Pros

Great corporate culture, encourages you to get involved with community, knowledgeable management and coworkers, good place to start career. There is also an incredible amount of benefits from Salary, 401K and bonus to Medical and Stock ownership.

Cons

The only con is that it is incredibly hard to move up in the company, even as a hard worker. People can become complacent and not be willing to move so younger people excited to climb higher will eventually get stuck behind someone who they will not allow you to leapfrog. Even Directors get stuck behind VPs who have not been promoted themselves.

Conceptually a good company, realistically needs work

Pros

Great benefits, alternative work arrangements, good coworkers

Cons

Ineffective leadership, unwilling to compensate longer term employees. Incentive compensation is a bit of a joke. So much of your salary is tied to it that your individual hard work will not be compensated for if the company or economy is having a bad year. 'Headwinds' have led to year over year total compensation decreases.

Pros

There are many pros to working for Prudential...the wealth of knowledge through managers, other advisors, the training team, and the wholesalers makes this career exciting and doable. There is literally no question that cannot be answered...and there are a lot of questions (especially when starting out). As a parent of two school aged children, another pro is having a schedule that allows the flexibility to still be a great parent. Finally, I personally love meeting different people and helping them improve their current/future financial place in life. It is a very rewarding career.

Cons

Everyone is afraid of a commissions based position...I was. Again, when you have the necessary training and people who will work with you every step of the way if needed it allows the commission part to come naturally. In this position my current income is more than it has ever been. My family is feeling the benefits of this income- coupled with my schedule, it is a win-win for all of us.
