Toxic management in the USA

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Trips to Barcelona and benefits were ok

Cons

Most managers have little to no experience, some lead by fear (excessive micromanagement), promotion by favoritism instead of those who really are hard workers, feedback is always asked for but since there is never any action taken on that feedback, there is lack of trust in HR. Sexism, absolutely no transparency. So much gossip in the USA makes you feel like you are in elementary school all over again.

Pros

- Free trip to sunny Barcelona - Birmingham office manager (Kay) is an absolute delight and always a ray of sunshine no matter how stressed she may be

Cons

- Pay is shocking under average especially for the systems you are forced to “self learn” compared to other similar companies and pay talk is forbidden because they pay everyone different for the same role. - If you’re friends with a TL or Manager, you will be treated like gold. Otherwise you may as well be the dirt from the 7th floors dirty walls. - They push that there’s no target on workload and that they just want the quality of the work to be 7 star service but then you are penalised if you haven’t completed as much as others. Constantly compared to other people. - zero flexibility and not remote or hybrid at all! - Patronising TL’s with zero experience on the systems used. Clearly just there to monitor toilet breaks. - the platform itself is shocking and very rarely used to make or modify bookings. Agents do everything back end by booking directly on provider websites. - Unprofessional TL’s who speak about others in 1-1’s, discuss other agents and threaten you if you so much as dare to speak negatively about one of their “friends”. - Random unnecessary rules put in place weekly (no talking at other peoples desks, no eating at your desk, no phones out on the table, no rest breaks) - No one speaks to you during your first few weeks there apart from Kay who is the office manager - constantly being micro managed by other member of your team that have been there longer - raising concerns goes nowhere simply get ignored

Do Not Try to Work Here

Pros

You will meet some very good people who mean well, have your best personal & career interest at heart, & build partnerships that may outlast your employment.

Cons

To the points above: Those people will not be found in the upper ranks. Most of them will listen, but no action will be taken by them. Some of them are even blatantly rude to you when you're simply seeking information or assistance. Teams are always in disarray, goals shift in a way that's dangerous for business, & more often than not they will toss a PIP at you before coaching you 1st - very aggressively at that. Onboarding was the best part about this place & that's only because they sent new hires to HQ in Barcelona, but for budgeting reasons they eliminated that. While that is a perk & NOT a necessity, for a company that supposedly has a lot of money, they've shown that they cannot manage it well. Underrepresented employees across the spectrum have expressed many a concern for management & peer behaviors. Unfortunately the sentiment of "finding things to complain about" (once stated on LinkedIn by their CEO) is shared & practiced by many up top. Managers have even been overheard sharing private information about other direct reports, and unethical statements about women & the LGBTQIA+ amongst themselves. Lastly, many issues of general harassment, sexual harassment, & misconduct are swept under the rug to the point where people have left without ever trying to raise the issue. Leadership does not prioritize eliminating these issues when told about them, & you will not hear feedback about where they are on a case. People have been victimized, & left demeaned & defeated.

We appreciate your sharing your feedback, and it’s always encouraging to read that you have met people whom you have built strong relationships with. As you know, at TK, one of our Values is ‘Be a good person’; we strive to recruit, promote, and recognise colleagues for this. Your experience seems to have some very specific topics that are difficult to comment on without the details. We are open if you would like to reach out and discuss your experiences in more detail, so we can better understand them. It’s important to add that all cases of discrimination raised to the People team are thoroughly investigated and handled appropriately. You have commented on the lack of feedback on such cases; I’m sure you can understand that any cases, whether conduct or performance, are private and confidential, and out of respect and privacy to everyone involved, case updates cannot and will not be provided. We always address cases in line with our policies, and when the investigation confirms the facts, the company has managed these accordingly It appears from your feedback that you are no longer working with TK, and therefore we wish you the best for the future.
