Pros

Great co-workers, flexible work schedule; health and benefits packages are still on par with similar companies. Very good severance packages for long-term employees.

Cons

Little to no upward mobility; two restructurings and multiple, mass layoffs in the last four years. Many IT and customer support jobs have been moved offshore with mixed results. Employees that remain with the company are doing more work for the same pay and less benefits.

Pros

The salary is competitive and the Boston location is in the center of everything. Though, every single person who knew its name only knew it because they hated it.

Cons

If it was possible to give this company less than one star, I would. I am not one to write reviews, but this company warrants it, if only to warn off future employees. Here's the thing - Pearson may try to entice you with its central location and its competitive salary benefits, but then it will suck out your soul and stomp all over your face. Let's start with the first thing you encounter with any company: it's HR department. Pearson's leaves a lot to be desired. Possibly, they should all go back to school and learn what an HR department is supposed to do. Not only do they refuse to help you with anything, but they will ignore any attempt you give to contact them for help. Emails go unanswered, if try to talk to them in person, they'll tell you they are too busy. And no matter what they tell you, they'll keep the mantra that they are always right and the employee is always wrong. Next, the managers. Sure, there may be some places within Pearson where the managers actually act like managers and manage their people and even know their employees' names, but they are rare. Most managers you encounter will ignore every single email you send to them. They refuse to train you, refuse to answer questions, refuse to help you in any capacity. I doubted my manager even knew my name and she certainly took every opportunity to avoid me and any of my teammates whenever she could. The people you work with tend to be better, but there's forever a mentality of 'my skin first' and no one is afraid to throw anyone under the bus. It's the first time in my career where I've been able to check every single box in one of those "Are you in a toxic work environment" websites. Here's my advice: save yourself the misery and the pain and the self-doubt. Find a company that values you as a person and as an employee. Find a company that believes in what you're doing and what it is doing. Find a company that cares. Because this one never will.
