Pros

None really, was meant to be clock in and out but wasn't

Cons

Unpaid overtime at least twice per week. Finishing at 6 or sometimes even 7 when I was contracted until 5:30. Weekend on call shift was so pointless and unpaid from what I can work out. Expected you to devote your life to it. Almost cult like atmosphere. Felt very uncomfortable with a lot of my colleagues comments about politics. Couldn't accept anyone having differing views. People not so popular with the boss got worse tasks like 7 hours straight on the phones.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review which reflects your experience with us at Octopus. It's clear that you did not have a positive experience, and I'm sorry that this was the case for you. In terms of your point about differing views, it's helpful that you have shared this, and I'll be raising it with the team. We absolutely intend to be a space where everyone with differing views, as long as they are respectful, are welcome. Whilst we don't want work to be dominated by talk of politics, the importance of differing views brings about creativity, debate and innovation in terms of the work we do. I get it, and will be taking it on board. In terms of some of the issues raised, there's some points that are not correct: - we don't advertise working with us as a "clock in, clock out" kind of role. We are very clear throughout the recruitment process that you may need to work a little bit later from time to time, and we do ask for discretionary effort. In return we are flexible in other ways, by rewarding and recognising that effort, but also by being flexible around our teams personal lives when they need it. We work hard to rarely say no to requests from the team. - the weekend on call shift is there to support our customers, particularly in emergencies, and again it's something that we are very clear about in the recruitment process. In return for working this, you get a day off in lieu either the week of, or the week after. - the role is predominantly a phone based role, and there are times when we are super busy when you can be on the phones for the vast majority of the day. We are clear about this throughout the recruitment process. - we hire people who care about what we do, and will love the work, and see it for all the opportunity for growth and development that it will bring. We are not a corporate or traditional employer that just hires people who want to pay their bills. Our mission is to transform the energy system on a global scale, and we need pro-active people who care about that and are willing to work hard at it. If there is anything further you would like to raise, you are more than welcome to email me directly - james.doyle@octoenergy.com Now that you have left, I wish you the very best in whatever you go on to do next. I hope you find employment that works for you, and I also hope that you can take some learnings with you from your time at Octopus. Kind regards, James Doyle Head of Operations

Pros

-Lunch Allowance -Yearly bonus -Paternity leave

Cons

- Nepotism. Bunch of management from Sky came over and hired their friends. Prevented development for long serving and deserving existing employees. - They fed all current engineers lies regarding their workload when they started. They have increased all engineers workload by 30-50% but kept them on the same pay and expect everyone to be fine with it. - Seriously stay away from this company. It seems like they treat their office staff like family (all the good reviews) and their field staff like rubbish.

Thank you for sharing your experience so openly, I'm genuinely sorry to hear that you’ve felt undervalued and misled during your time with us. We understand how frustrating it can be when workload expectations change without clear communication. We are working extremely hard with our communications, and have added many things to support this over recent weeks and months - although still not perfect - we are listening to everyones view and reacting accordingly. I take your comments about management practices and internal hiring seriously, and I can assure you that everyone that we recruit goes through a fair and consistent process to identify the best person for the role. Your feedback about the differences in how office and field teams are treated is really interesting, I believe that our managers do a great job in ensuring you are looked after and have what you need to do a brilliant job for our amazing customers. We want every employee to feel respected, supported, and given fair opportunities for growth, regardless of their role, workplace or background. I truly appreciate you taking the time to voice these issues, feedback like yours helps us identify where we need to improve and build a better, more transparent workplace for everyone. If you would like to discuss further - please email me on jason.smith@octopusenergy.services Jason Smith Head of Field Operations - East
