Pros

Free food, and coffees, well stocked kitchen. Not overly stat driven as opposed to other call centres. Not laid out (floor plan) like a traditional call centre. Treat you like a baby in the training process/ almost patronising, and dumb everything down. The place is quite literally run by children (average age range early to mid 20's in the office). Big on the rainbow brigade agenda, so at least there's plenty of colour and rainbows. It does become incredibly annoying after a while, especially when that agenda is forced down your throat. Clowns with purple and neon hair, ridiculous facial piercings jutting out of random places and bright yellow fingernails, walking about the office first thing Monday morning, is an affront to the senses. Oh, and pets are permitted in the office as well.

Cons

Awful salary for the amount of work, expectations and standards required. Everything seems rosey but honestly don't waste your time there. There is very limited career progression. Even once you're trained up in the various specialisms, after a solid 5 year career you'll only be on around 26/27k annually. Absolute pittance.

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. I’m happy to hear you appreciated our office and our approach to above and beyond customer service being the most important thing for us but also sorry to hear that you weren’t happy in regards to pay and progression. We value our teams greatly and we regularly evaluate our salaries for this reason, which recently led to us raising our starting salary in Leicester. Over the last few years, we have put in a lot of changes to further support the development journey of our Energy Specialists which provides more transparency and guidance when it comes to pay. If this hasn’t been your experience, it would be helpful to understand why not. I can see that you're a former employee but I'd love to chat with you in more detail about your experience with us so that we can learn from this in future. Please do reach out to me on email at fay.olner@octoenergy.com if you'd be willing to have a chat. All the best, Fay Olner, Site Operations Manager

Pros

Free food Pet friendly Incentives and bonuses Small teams and managing your own customer base Thanks Ben money incentives for extra work Friendly people

Cons

Inconsistency in management, all teams have different ways of doing things They say it s hybrid after the first 8 weeks-nope- they want you to be in the office until you pass probation You are allowed only 10 days of paid sick a year. Also they count it by days not by occasion. So if you got a virus that takes you out for a week, 5 days gone out of 10, and they expect you to want to work from home instead when sick rather than calling in sick (which is inconvenient if you are really bad sick) They don't raise your salary after you pass probation, they introduced a "make the grade" training which is not relevant to your performance as an energy Specialist.

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to leave your review. We always welcome honest feedback at Octopus and it’s great to hear the positives about working with us as well as the things that you don’t agree with. I understand your point about the teams having different ways of doing things. This is actually a deliberate part of the way we work at Octopus and what makes us a bit different to other energy suppliers. Each team has the freedom & responsibility on how to achieve their goals and look after their customers. I do understand that this might feel inconsistent but it also creates a great environment for those that enjoy the flexibility. With regards to hybrid working, we do say that the first 8 weeks need to be fully office based and then team members can move to hybrid 3 days in the office. However, we do extend this if individuals need the extra support that’s available in person. The Octopus model thrives on great people coming together to do great things and spending time in person for some or all of the week is a key part of our success. I appreciate your feedback regarding how we manage absence. At Octopus we always try to do the right thing for an individual rather than sticking rigidly to what’s in a contract. Leaders are empowered to make decisions on how matters are resolved and this goes for how we manage absence too. In terms of pay & reward, our Skills Academy scheme allows Energy Specialists to increase their pay by learning new skills and specialisms. The first pay reward happens at ‘Made the Grade’ which involves completing all the foundation learning modules as well as m demonstrating your ability to perform the role well. The probation period is not linked to this as we appreciate that everyone learns at different pace. It sounds as though your experience of these things haven't been as positive or landed in the way they were intended. I’d love the chance to discuss in more detail with and a chance to put things right. If you feel comfortable, please rewatch out to me on Slack or via email on fay.olner@octoenergy.com All the best Fay Olner Site Operations Manager
