Cons

Many top engineers left poor working conditions at the other giant companies to come here and join the best company in the industry. You have the best engineers in the industry here who were happy and complete jobs to a high standard. Now many want to leave, morale is at an all time low, mainly because of the increase of workload onto the mid seniority level without any notice or explanation. Please fix up before it's too late and we are forced to leave through stress, exhaustion, unrealistic expectations and unfair pay. We used to be able to go the extra mile for every customer, ensuring all meters were commissioned, ihds working correctly and answering customers queries, No job was impossible and the abort rate was very low which we were proud of. Now we are constantly rushing jobs just to make it home on time and even having to hand jobs back at the end of the day, something octopus never did. The increased workload is effecting the safe working practises of engineers. We also must find time to charge our vans if we cannot get a charger where we live amongst 3 jobs a day (1 ev charger and 2x single exchanges or 1x ev charger and a dual exchange with up to an hour travel time inbetween jobs). I have heard up to 7-8 jobs a day now for metering only engineers, madness. This also doesn't account time for bybox visits which are now more frequent due to the amount of rubbish stacking up on the van from a the installs we are completing and the huge array of ev charger options offered to customers. It has rapidly gone down hill and looks to be turning into another British Gas etc, except they expect more technically challenging work (ev) alongside metering (elec, Gas and 3phase) work for no additional pay. The cost of living pay increase is a joke, you get a payrise with the rate of inflation payed on your birthday every year after being in the company. This is unfair as people are on completely different wages due to whatever the rate of inflation was the month they joined after a year. As a result people are getting payed less than othe engineers who are less skilled and joined after them and everyone knows it. To fix this put everyone's pay up at THE SAME TIME ONCE PER YEAR! 5th of April would make sense and this would stop the issue of engineers all being on different salaries. A ridiculous system that will never be fair and will always cause animosity amongst peers. Please sort it out Octopus as most of us would like to stay but feel it's no longer worth it at the moment. At least put everyone with the same skills on equal pay.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share this. I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. You've raised some valid points, and we want you to know they’re being heard and we are currently taking various actions to ensure the working day reflects all of the things that you need to do - including charging the vehicles and stock pick ups. Our field teams are the heart of Octopus, and the pride and care you show in your work — from getting things right first time and going the extra mile for customers — is exactly what’s made this company special, and we never want to lose that. We know we haven’t got everything right, but we are committed to tackling the issues that we have. These are all being looked at, and feedback like yours will directly help shape the changes we need to make. Thanks for taking the time to share your review. I'm sorry to hear about how you are feeling right now. We take all feedback very seriously and are committed to constantly improving the working environment for our employees. We recognise that we are not always perfect and mistakes do happen, but we are actively working to improve and provide better support to our teams. Your concerns around opportunity and working conditions are important to us, and we encourage open discussions so we can find ways to improve. We have recently introduced engineer engagement days - which gives everyone a chance to come together as a team, recognise great performance, let you know what's happening around the business, share ideas and provide feedback. We hope this helps create more opportunities for open conversations and support. If you are feeling unsettled or under pressure, I strongly encourage you to reach out to your manager or myself. We want to ensure all employees feel valued, supported, and heard. We value the opinions of all of our employees and would love to discuss this further with you. Please contact me directly at richard.hutchison@octopusenergy.services. Many thanks, Richard Hutchison, Head of Installation
