Pros

Overtime is paid if you want it Quality of installs are great Pension Paternity leave if you've been with the company over a year

Cons

Work loads are crazy Management deal with jobs handed back and will penalise you for sending jobs back when your stuck on a day No sick pay if its your first instance you'll be paid for upto 10 days after you need to be clear 12 months rolling even if you have a work related injury Their tell you to do as there say and youl get so and so upskill but in reality there pick n choose who there want upskilling and keep you waiting when there's nothing realy there You are treated like a number and hard work isn't rewarded Base pay in one of the lowest In the industry No gym benefits On call doesn't pay great and if you finish work late your work loads for the next day stays the same Taking micro Management to a whole new level

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback, both the positives and the areas of concern. It’s encouraging to hear that aspects like overtime pay, pension, paternity leave, and the quality of installations are seen positively. I also take the challenges you’ve outlined seriously, particularly regarding workload, how job handbacks are managed, sick pay policies, opportunities for upskilling, recognition, and compensation. Your points about on-call pay, micro-management, and lack of benefits like gym access are also noted. Feedback like this is valuable because it highlights areas where we can make real improvements to better support our team. While not every issue can be fixed, it may allow a better understanding as to why things are the way they are. If you’re open to it, I would appreciate a chance to discuss these concerns further so they can be investigated and raised with the relevant teams. Please feel free to reach out to me directly for a chat. Richard Hutchison, Head of Installations

Pros

Good support through out various teams and good benefits

Cons

When I joined 2-3 years ago, this company was the best I had ever worked at. I fully intended on spending the rest of my career here. Since then, workload has increased multiple times over the passed couple of years but yet the pay has stayed the same. The current work and home life balance is abysmal, we are given next to no time to complete meter or EV installs and every second of our day is taken up by work, no time for breaks or lunch. We are also receiving multiple metering jobs as well as EV installs in a day, with high management seemingly having no clue as to how much time and effort is required to complete this work. Currently nearly every engineer you speak to is sick and fed up and demands change, but no one from management seems to listen. It used to be one of octopus’s main focuses, that its employees were happy and enjoyed their job and in turn that happiness would flow through to our great customer experience but that customer experience seems to have taken a back seat. As the company has grown, it is quickly becoming just like every other energy company, when octopus promised they never would!

Thank you for adding this post with your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you feel your experience has changed so much over the past couple of years. Our customers and engineers are at the centre of what we do, and I never want anyone to feel unheard or undervalued. We take your concerns seriously—especially around job timings, workload distribution, and fair pay for skilled roles. We are continually reviewing all of these things to ensure they as fair and as accurate as possible. We are committed to keeping our focus on what made Octopus special in the first place: a company that puts its people and customers first. I also recognise that we do make mistakes and things are not perfect all of the time - therefore it would be amazing if you got in touch with me directly, so we can talk in more detail about how you are feeling.
