Poor work environment

Pros

The department manager was very nice, but was also new. Pretty flexible with schedule. Decent benefits.

Cons

This was not a production position, yet the manager always made underhanded comments about production expectations. When asked for an expectation of what was considered "good" production, the answer was "the job doesn't really work that way." This is true, as underwriting may require a lot of research and review. If the immediate supervisor had negative feedback, she hid behind the team to address it, saying "the team feels..." which created an acrimonious environment. No clear processes. What was recommended to do one day, was not the same way something was processed for the same task the next. Very inefficient work environment. I quit in less than six months.

Best Move I Ever Made

Pros

I'm not normally one for leaving reviews, however MAPFRE have made such an impact on me I felt I should. I've never worked for a global company that has been so welcoming from every department, from my line managers to the support from the head office in Bristol. Everyone has a great attitude to help, encourage and develop an employee. What more can you ask for?

Cons

There are none to report !

Pros

The breaks, being alone and away from the job itself

Cons

Gossip around the business, unprofessional behaviour, no progression, no training, pay is diabolical, managers favour, micro managed, medical team laugh at the unfortunate clients, nobody knows what the rules and regulations are. Staff turn around is high and they don't care about anyone, not even their clients. Ego rather than common sense is used by management.

Pros

The team in our Bristol office are very friendly, it is a great place to work with social activities throughout the year. My manager is very supportive and encourages development and progression. I was successful in gaining a promotion after 6 months here. Would recommend working here if you are looking for an environment you will learn a lot in.

Cons

I can’t think of anything

Mapfre UK is falling apart

Pros

As per the vast majority of the other reviews of Mapfre UK on this site, there is nothing positive about working for this company. This cannot be swept aside by the company as simply ‘disgruntled former members of staff’. If this is the case, what on earth is the company doing, to make so many people so disgruntled, and how come their competitors aren’t making their staff so disgruntled, when you look at other reviews: Allianz UK 3.2, AXA UK 3.7, Aviva UK 3.4, Zurich UK 3.3…but Mapfre UK an appalling 1.5.

Cons

Before I list the main cons – anyone reading this who is considering taking a job at any of Mapfre UK’s subsidiaries, don’t do it. Plenty of competent professionals have been duped into working there, only for their careers and in some cases their health to be seriously damaged. I would estimate average length of service for new starters is now less than a year. The company is in a serious mess and is caught in a tailspin it can’t get out of. All competent senior managers have left, leaving behind the deadwood that can’t find work elsewhere. As the company is in such a mess and the senior managers are incompetent and unable to fix the problems, there is now a siege mentality amongst them, which has created an incredibly toxic and unpleasant atmosphere. It’s not clear who is responsible for what areas, as barely any information is provided and there is no clear management structure in place. If you raise any concerns or questions to management about this serious operational failing you’re at risk of censure. It’s not uncommon for information to be suppressed by management, such as when someone leaves or is made redundant, as they try and cover up problems. You might then be chasing somebody on email for something important for a couple of weeks, only to then learn through gossip that that person was made redundant a month ago. Morale is non-existent and staff turnover is now at an uncontrollable level. Some vacancies are now pretty much permanently advertised, as it’s become impossible to retain staff in certain roles. The service that is provided to customers is shocking. It’s not uncommon for customers to wait months for a claim decision to be made, as the entire operational department has collapsed under the most appalling mismanagement, where strategic decisions have been made for personal gain rather than business reasons.
