Low Pay/Low Pay Raises

Pros

Great company with dedicated people; growth throughout the United States, corporate headquarters in Webster, Ma. They are not going anywhere. Free coffee

Cons

Extremely low pay; if promoted, very little money offered for that promotion; Current management and "old Commerce approach" of taking money away by not offering the top raise if employee earns it, they actually take money away with comments of "no ones perfect to earn top raise"; They hire outside help and bring in at the middle of pay grade which is not fair, as employees with 10+ years with MAPFRE are not even making close to that; they are better off quitting and re-applying to get to the mid grade level (thanks to old Commerce thinking) Unfortunately, there are still old Commerce employees who refuse to change to the new way of doing things, which in turn, creates a negative environment, this includes people in "management positions, including AVP's and VP's; they are stuck in old mentality with no foresight for growth or forward thinking. Pay your good loyal employees and stop the "no ones perfect" mentality; it is like its coming out the VP's own pocket; That is the reason why everyone is leaving an otherwise great company. Also, the longer you are with company, the smaller the bracket for getting a raise; remove this antiquated system and give good loyal employees what they deserve and work for everyday; You are penalizing long term employees with 15+ years by giving them low raises, totally not fair and not a good business practice; this is what makes long term employees "fall behind" on salary scale and why you are hiring people off the street at mid salary range making more money than a loyal dedicated employee with 15+ years of service. Is that the right approach and in your own motto of "people taking care of people"?? I don't think so

Not a "Great Place To Work"

Pros

The front line employees make the company. They strive to get the work done day in and day out while Sr. Management in many departments struggle to get a clue.

Cons

Leadership has lost sight of what matters; people. Current state is to overburden the work force while we work to reorg over and over as we "become MAPFRE". The vast majority of leadership positions are filled externally and there's a total lack of understanding for the history and culture of processes. Change it is the attitude, no matter the impact to staff or the customer. Most changes have long term impacts on morale, which impacts the customer, but that goes overlooked. While the Great Place to Work survey is a focus in many business areas including HR, many Sr. leaders suffer from hypocritical tendencies. Do as I say, not as I do is what it boils down to. Providing honest feedback to leadership, even when it's solicited, is frowned upon and there are many apparent cases of good employees being black balled as a result.

Pros

Worker bees, there are a lot of good hard-working people, they keep getting beat down.

Cons

Ageism, and sweat shop mentality. You better perform at the level they expect, if you can’t do it within 50 hours they’ll take all of your weekends. I’m pretty sure they’d want you to work from your hospital bed if they needed it. There’s some sort of employee relation team, it’s a joke, treating employees like dirt if the team doesn’t get things their way, just terrible to talk to. Using our own photos to put together videos of fun times that they had nothing to do with and act like it’s the company doing. So fake for an employee focused team. It’s the worker bees that keep things happy within their own teams, not the executive HR team. Diversity is a joke. You’d think it would start in human resources but not sure there’s any real diversity other than Spanish and they’re headquartered out of Spain so that makes sense. Is there anyone black in Human Resources or part of the executive team? Any women on the senior exec team? Don’t expect to come in here and be savvy and introduce new things, there’s a lot of big egos here and if it’s not their idea then they don’t like it, or they’ll be happy to have you do all the work and take the recognition.
