Pros

The people at MAPFRE are great. You aren't challenged to work too hard. You can't get fired for pretty much anything except dealing drugs at work (yes, an employee drug ring was operating at MAPFRE and was busted. They got fired.)

Cons

The business is very resistant to change. However, they need to change as all their processes are centered around when they were a monopoly. Competition will kill them if they don't change and actually is slowly killing them now. Nobody ever gets fired (this is demotivating when people who don't do work stick around forever) and there are a million people who've been there forever. (this prevents upward mobility). The technical talent they work so hard to get then sees no opportunity and goes somewhere else. Most people work in a very small job function, and never get to see anything outside of that. It is a very closed world at MAFPRE.

* Lots of PTO time * Health benefits on Day 1 * Covered parking * There are some really great employees at this company

Cons

* Some of the worst management I've ever encountered * Lack of company direction * Lack of training and development * Oppressive work atmosphere * Horrible computer systems - slow, frustrating, hard to learn, and always breaking down * Numbers driven - a focus on pushing the work out quickly without a care if it is done correctly * "Divide and Conquer" mentality - no sense of teamwork * Reminded me of high school, with all the gossip and backbiting * Extremely high turnover * TOXIC

Pros

If you come in with background insurance knowledge you can start off with a little higher pay. 401K, dental, vision plans are ok. Environment is ok if you're alright with the same mundane boring routine day after day.

Cons

Working in the customer service department is hell. You get nothing but complaints from customers and agents all day. Training is a joke. Company drops the ball all the time. ID cards and other documents are sometimes never sent to policyholders, agent websites and software crashes are almost every other day, accounting messes up the billing almost every month which leads to more disgruntled customers, company has no organization, advancement is extremely slow, expect maybe a .20 cent raise if you work your a#$ off for one year with a perfect attendance.
