Pros

Liberty Mutual likes to hire graduates fresh out of college in order to train someone to Liberty standards without prior habits and opinions formed by other employment experience. It is fairly easy to get hired if you went to a decent university and you will be started out at a great salary and with a pretty good holiday (called "flextime" in the company) accrual rates. This is a good starter job.

Cons

You will be overworked and micromanaged - micromanaged like you've never been micromanaged before... Promotions are based not on merit, but with your length of time with the company and on how aggressive your manager is in pushing for your promotion (which needs to be approved by upper management). Most talented individuals leave the company after a year or two for better opportunities. And this is where the problem of promotions based on one's length of time with the company become a problem. You see, those who would not be competitive in the global jobs market know that if they just wait around at Liberty Mutual, they will move up the corporate ladder into management positions. As such, there are some truly horrendous mid-level managers at Liberty Mutual - uneducated, uninspiring, lacking the social skills required of a manager, micromanaging, etc.

Pros

The pay is great for entry level positions, esp for recent college grads.

Cons

They give ample time off, but beware of taking advantage of it. The work load is so intense it takes days to catch up from missing an afternoon. Also, there is an incredibly high stress level with demands from within the company as well as from outside.

Pros

There are opportunies to move between departments and other locations. On-going training is encourage. However with recent changes (downsizing) the opportunities are less. Accumalation of vacation time (flex time) is acceptable, however, the ability to use it not a positive.

Cons

Because of recent changes there is increased pressure by management to track performance which can be distracting to completing assignments. The company does not communicate pending changes. You can walk into the office and are told things are changing - now, your desk is moving; co-workers are gone. Work load balance is unevenly distributed, some consultants are overwhelmed and others are struggling to get work. Work life balance is difficult inspite of their encouragement to take the time off, you have build up a "reserve" of service hours otherwise you will get behind and never catchup.
