Pros

Good WLB; hotel discount is nice; good technical leadership; positive culture.

Cons

Antagonistic relationship between HR and devs; slow-paced; disappointing bonuses at lower levels; lower hiring bar; volatile messaging from upper leadership; lower engineering salaries; reimplementing return-to-office for devs despite lower base pay.

Pros

-Employee discount -Decent benefits/PTO -Job stability -Good work/life balance (esp if you do bare minimum, it’s pretty easy to get away with it)

Cons

-Forcing people to go into office 2-3x a week even though most contractors and team members work 100% remote -Below market pay for tech positions -Raises are terrible, typically 3% increase for cost of living adjustments -Lots of outsourcing, and high turnover on certain teams. -Not long-term job if you care about professional growth. Most team members either leave after realizing they’ll never get promoted or end up staying in the same role for 10+ years so they can coast -Company culture is forced upon you. It’s expected you play nice with everyone even if there are major problems to call out. This makes it easy to coast bc you will never get in trouble or fired for it.

Pros

These pros are moreso about the company in general: the benefits at this company are SO good; free food everyday; some of the best healthcare around; company trips & travel benefits; this company really is THAT good.

Cons

The cons have to do with the bellman position itself; at my location, I was fulltime & minimum-wage (in Virginia, it's $12 an hour). Now you'd expect the tips to make up for it, but it was rare that I got any good tips here. And I've worked for other hotels & made AMAZING tips at those other hotels, so I know I'm good at my job--its just the clientele at my particular Hilton-location were cheap. I wouldn't mind this as much if I was part-time and if i was able to do something else more productive (like be in college at the same time), but the bellman-position here *requires* you to be 40 hours a week. With bad tips, $12 an hour fulltime (while doing nothing else to help your social mobility) is not sustainable in today's world, so the position burned me out (And it doesn't help that you can't sit down at ALL on the job). The benefits are GREAT--but the pay itself: not so much. In the end, It just wasn't worth it since there was no 100% guarantee of moving up from bellman.
