Pros

None that I can think of

Cons

- sales driven culture permeating all levels, staff are encouraged to constantly sell on the job - no real technical acumen or knowledge in the team particularly in management levels - no strategy only sales driven targets from upper levels - this translates to little to no career pathways for most staff - highly political and toxic environment - talking up what is essentially an empty vessel

We do wish you well in your next step. Thanks for all you did for HKA. We are sorry to read your review and note that you are a former employee. We respect that this is your opinion, yet we do see this differently to you. The reasons we see this differently are that our people tell us that our culture is very collaborative, we are one global team, and high-performing. The facts also support what our colleagues say to us. In addition, we have extremely low attrition and very successful hiring of excellent and diverse employees. As a global and growing profit-making business we are devoted to serving our Clients and doing the very best for our people, we do have a clear strategy for all business areas. We are not complacent and we seek feedback, so we continue to grow and improve as a global successful business. I am sorry that you see this so differently to us. We wish you a successful future. Thank you for sharing your views and thank you for all you have achieved in HKA for the last 3-4 years, as I note you are a current employee. Thank you for sharing your view about HKA’s positive business outlook. Delighted that you have had a good experience with the interesting work you are involved in at HKA, work-life balance, good benefits, bonus, and job security. I also see you have several Cons listed. It is important for me to say, I respect that these are your views; albeit I don’t agree with many of your points. Always feel free to connect with me in person, as often it is better to listen and debate solutions to improve situations – feel free to reach out at katewood@hka.com and we can arrange to meet up. A few points to address your views:- - “corporate likes to micromanage” – I am sorry you see it that way. I do see it differently. Our experienced experts who are in our corporate functions are doing all they can to improve HKA and bring more consistency to a successful and growing global business - “employee review system is awful. Based on limited, generic inputs and supervisors who may not work with you have final say over ratings and can change them as they see fit, without warning or reason” The performance management system that I observe in HKA is managed fairly and robustly to reward high performers who deliver results and to develop colleagues who may need more help. If you have any personal concerns about your performance reviews please reach out and we can happily look at the situation for you - “lousy raises…” – I respect this is your view, yet the vast majority of our HKA team do see this differently. We know that Total Reward is one component of how we motivate and keep our brilliant people; so we always address this area as best we can to sustain HKA. We typically promote circa 15% of our global team each year, as we know they are ready for promotion and we want to recognize and reward their talent and success - “consultants have no ability to provide feedback to management” – factually this is very different. We encourage feedback, ideally in person or through our electronic feedback system, Agile. In addition, we have several external anonymous surveys that happen during the year to allow all colleagues to share their views; as we know this helps us all to celebrate success, share things that work, and address areas that need to improve - “Owned by a private equity company, upper management only concerned with profit” – our leadership teams are passionate about our people, as we know they make the difference to HKA clients and to how our people enjoy their daily work in HKA. Our people rated their satisfaction at working in HKA as 8/10 in our last global external anonymous survey; which is illustrative of an engaged team that feels happy at HKA. I am sad and sorry that you feel this way about HKA and you are frustrated, where you have worked for over three years. As mentioned, please do reach out to me, as I am willing to listen, share views, and always look to make further improvements. In the interim, thanks for sharing candidly your opinions. Wishing you well. Best regards Kate Wood Partner, Chief People Officer

Dear Colleague, I am sad for you and I am sorry that you feel this way. I want to try to help and I trust my reply will offer you food for thought. Please do feel free to reach out to me at katewood@hka.com; as I will willingly listen and progress your concerns. I want to reassure you that you can raise your concern internally and it will be managed and investigated in a professional, supportive, and confidential manner. In HKA we do not tolerate bullying or favoritism. We also have a robust set of ways to raise concerns, as I emailed out to all our global colleagues on October 5 2021. Based on my eighteen months in HKA, I believe we have a healthy culture at HKA and to continue to support that we openly share with all colleagues how to raise a concern. We also report to our main Board the numbers of complaints, grievances and whistleblowing instances that we have in HKA; so we are transparent and open for challenge and improvement. The number of instances during 2021 is negligible; yet of course we always respect any colleague raising a concern and deal with it most respectfully. HKA is committed to an environment where open, honest communications are the expectation, not the exception. I respect that these are your opinions listed under Cons; notwithstanding that, I do disagree with you about “double standards, no support, low pay and no incentives” My experience is that:- - we have high standards and everyone is held to account for these high standards - there is much support for our people, from our line managers to our global people team - our pay and total reward package is good, including a bonus plan based on delivering collaborative results and having the right behaviors. I know we will continue to review our Total Reward approach, as there is still room for improvement here. Everyone is entitled to feel how they want to feel of course. I do know that the vast majority of our colleagues in HKA are most positive about our successful, growing, and improving organization – I know this from discussions with colleagues and also our annual global colleague survey where our colleagues scored the following questions: “HKA encourages good ethical business practices” 8.7/10 score from our colleagues “Overall, how satisfied are you working at HKA” 7.9/10 score from our colleagues “How likely is it you would recommend HKA as a place to work” 7.8/10 score from our colleagues “Employee health and wellbeing is a priority at HKA” 8/10 score from our colleagues “My manager provides me with the support I need to complete my work” 8.3/10 score from our colleagues “My manager cares about me as a person” 8.4/10 score from our colleagues As mentioned above feel free to contact me so I can try to assist; as I certainly do not want any colleague to feel as you do. Please take care of yourself and reach out if you need any support, particularly during this pandemic which is a challenging time for all. Best regards Kate Wood Partner, Chief People Officer
