Pros

A really mission-driven organisation with truly talented and dedicated people. Great company to work for if you want to make a difference and believe in the power of open science.

Cons

Structural changes, but nothing dissimilar to many tech companies.

Pros

Amazing coworkers I started pre-2024 so fully remote (optional)

Cons

UM take no responsibility and have no forethought except for how much money to spend on seeing each other Targets are changed too frequently and are often unrelated to your current work. The pressure that we’re under has led to a poorer work life balance and lots of micromanagement. There is a growing culture of backstabbing which, combined with favouritism that was never subtle but is now something the company is open about internally, has led to the QoL working here to seriously diminish. AI-obsessed UM makes it obvious that cost cutting is prioritised over human input or relationships. Many staff signed off, many feel forced out, many only staying because they need to pay rent.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Responsible use of AI is a priority for us, but we’re very clear that AI enhances and supports our work, never replaces human input. We set ambitious goals to support personal and company growth, and these expectations reflect the pace and scale of our work. We continue to review how we support teams as we grow and evolve.
