Pros

Not to much stress. They raise salaries (but usually below inflation) and sometimes give bonuses. Employees with a very good level.

Cons

They are trying to force people who live near the offices into hybrid while half the company stays at home. The job can be very slow and boring. This is caused by all the organizational chaos. I have been in more teams than I can remember at this point. Management doesn't seem to know what they are doing. Hiring like crazy, massive layoffs, return to office for no reason, constant reorganizations... CEO wants people to act like it's a cult instead of a job. (Open for opinions unless you disagree)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. As you mentioned, we’re transitioning to a hybrid model in our key office locations to offer more face-to-face collaboration opportunities- reflecting employee feedback. We believe in-person interactions foster stronger relationships, improve communication, and spark creative problem-solving. We remain committed to recognizing strong performance and consistently addressing underperformance.

Pros

Fully remote at the time, but would seem that is no longer the case for all employees The people

Cons

Joined in 2022 when the company appeared to be doing well, my experience then was that specialists were respected, had ambitious but reasonable targets and there was a great team spirit and camaraderie. By 2023 there was a shift in mood that percolated from top down, increasing focus on journal specialists' individual targets that became progressively unrealistic and major job specification changes that resulted in multiple (poorly organised and executed) training periods, alongside a significant increase in workload. By 2024, the workload was so heavy that it was normal to be unable to clear assigned daily tasks and these would just compound throughout the week. Specialists and managers were burned out and there was no morale left to speak of. Moreover, the increasing focus on use of AI and email templates removed opportunities for creativity and the work became dull and unfulfilling. Such a disappointing end to an experience that began so well.

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear you struggled with your workload. While we do encourage teams to set ambitious targets (teams do decide on their targets with their managers), we are very disappointed to hear that it became unmanageable for you. We would like to follow up on this, so if you could send more information to feedback.ta@frontiersin.org, we would appreciate it.

Pros

- Fantastic department and colleagues - Remote working (although I hear this is now being phased out) - Reasonable salary (at the time)

Cons

- Upper management shifted goalposts constantly and churned out buzzwords in meetings without anything solid to back them up. - Linked to above, we'd change structure and plans every year or so but it would be up to lower-level teams to figure out how to make this work. Planning is not their strong suit. - While I listed salary as a pro, this is likely no longer the case as there have been restrictions to bonuses and pay has not kept up with inflation rates - Few opportunities to move up within the company. I lost count of the number of people who left for new roles because they got fed up jumping through hoops.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we’re pleased to hear you enjoyed working with the colleagues in your department. You are right, we do make structural changes, and we will continue to make whatever changes are necessary to adapt to a rapidly evolving industry. We are an agile organization, constantly looking to raise the bar. We have recently improved our progression pathways to provide every employee with an even clearer career development path, and this will remain a company priority and focus.
