Pros
There are no pros to working for BT
Cons
To BT you are a bum on a seat and that is it! You will never be more than a number to them, they will barely even consider you a human being. I suffered disability discrimination at the hands of managers and staff alike in BT Tower Swansea and not a single thing was ever done about it despite raising grievances about these issues. On one occasion when my mother was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, I asked if I could leave work to be with her and the exact word for word response from the manager was “what would that achieve?”, this manager gained a promotion by moving to Openreach. Whilst I was being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I received a letter that said a lump had been found in my oesophagus (I would end up going through 8months of tests to see if I had oesophageal cancer at the same time, headed by the consultant who gave end of life care to my grandfather when he died of cancer) and when I asked if I could take the day so I could speak to my doctors about this and I would work the Saturday instead I was asked “what’s the point?” I made a complaint about this but the CCM hushed it up. After I finally got the all clear for cancer and just 3 weeks before the pandemic started I began treatment for MS which left me immunosuppressed. BT refused to supply me with the proper equipment to allow me to work from home. The managers claimed that BT aren’t giving desks to homeworkers, this is despite LinkedIn being full of posts from BT employees at the time who were being given desks to help them work from home. The CCM, despite never doing a proper H&S review, deemed my home unsafe for home working to enable them to force me back into the office, they also threatened to put me through the disciplinary procedure if I didn’t return to the tower the day after lockdown ended. I finally got the equipment after going through DWP who, with great ease found my home was safe for home working, but magically this was only approved a few hours after the second lockdown had been announced….funny that, isn’t it One of my managers was so incompetent as recording my absences due to MS that I lost a weeks wages, which I never got back.
