Pros

Experience - I learned a lot from working here for ten years. From various jobs in management to learning and development. Holiday/vacation time - if you're in the US you will likely never have a job with this much vacation time right off the bat. Global company - Fun working with/visiting people in different sites.

Cons

Pay - pay your employees a wage comparable to others in the same industry. Raises are hit or miss. I've seen an 8.5% raise to a 1.0% and had the same rating. Unattainable goals - you are rated on a five point scale. The 5 is completely unattainable, don't bother asking how to get there, you'll only be met with blank stares or your manager trying to dodge the question. Be happy with your 3. Wrong people/wrong place - some of the managers need to be sacked... immediately. They couldn't manage a team if it saved their life and watching them try is either comical or extremely frustrating. HR - we get you have to follow policy, but use some tact. Telling someone I need to be able to understand and deliver your quarterly review of an employee in case you get hit by a bus a die the next day could have been stated a bit more appropriately. She is like the SS and any minute that trigger can and will be pulled.

Pros

Absolutely none nothing positive about working here avoid at ALL cists

Cons

Culture of bullying discrimination weak spiteful middle management promoted sideways for dreadful business decisions higher management old and out of touch. Actively encourage an environment where management are so terrified for their own skin that they apply ridiculous personal performance measures to actively remove anyone deemed as a threat to their precarious position

Pros

I now work for a much smaller employer and have come to see BT's points in a clear light: 1) Excellent flexible working and supporting technology across the business 2) Leading brand with people who are genuinely proud to work there and do a good job 3) Good benefits package 4) Good internal comms 5) Good opportunities to move within the company - but don't wait to be asked. Your career is what you make it 5) Most work/decisions made in short conference calls. Face to face meetings largely rare. I like this way of working. Others might need more nurturing. 6) Good support for working parents. 7) It's a grown-up way of working. You find your own training and there is plenty to tap into.

Cons

Cons 1) The benefits package offsets and fairly conservative wage. I earn much more now, but my benefits aren't as good so do the maths 2) Finding a real person to talk to for any systems support is impossible. Everything is self-service and online. Don't expect any IT man here. 3) Most work done on conference calls. If you like half day meetings, they are rare. 4) It's a large company, so restructuring is common. Sometimes this means you feel you're just a number.
