Pros

As everyone has mentioned, I am a big fan of the free soda and WiFi. The people are nice too.

Cons

This company is steadily declining in employee morale. Departments are worried (as they should be) about outsourcing. With two major departments being outsourced to horrible companies, it is only a matter of time before the next is notified. Of course management is aware several months prior of the departments being outsourced, they just choose not to notify their employees in a timely manner.

Pros

Mobility- people change jobs frequently Innovative Some work from home opportunities Growth opportunities- locations in 22 states Servant leadership model preferred Good pay Good benefits Company pays larger share of insurance premiums for lower-wage employees Tuition reimbursement Excellent mission to serve the poor and vulnerable Economies of scale- being able to work with/learn from people across the nation

Cons

Few clear career paths provided- operating lean eliminated a lot of entry-level management positions May have to move for some career opportunities Occasional tension between headquarters and locations I would like to see even more dedication to serving the poor and vulnerable

Pros

Coworkers kept me there. Opportunities and respected in own department but not with organization.

Cons

Mission and values of St. Vincent hospital prior to Ascension coming in was good. Nuns presence made a difference. Respected among the community. It is obvious that Ascension leaders care more for green going into their pockets than patient care, patient safety, staff safety, technology and building maintenance. Physicians and nurses are not on same team, physicians rule the place and are the golden children. Leaders at Ascension corporate office in St. Louis are extremely disconnected with what clinical staff does every day, how much spare time clinical staff have and what staff in a hospital actually does. In addition, leaders, such as regional directors, don’t have qualifications or experience. Marketing isn’t keeping up, more Riley and IU Health ads and fundraisers around town than StV, Ascension or PMCH.
