Pros

I worked in 2 different departments holding 3 different positions in my 8yrs at Ascension and it doesn’t seem to matter what department you’re in, the issues with management and operations remain the same. The only thing that kept me at Ascension were the people I worked with, I met some life long friends along the way. Other than that, this organization (nationwide) is on a rapid decline.

Cons

They’re closing entire departments down left and right, entire hospitals have closed their doors leaving staff without jobs in the blink of an eye. Allegedly, the hospital I worked at is losing $30mil/mo (according to my former director) yet the CEO is making $13mil/yr. They do not care about employees or retaining GOOD employees, period. If you want a promotion or decent raise just forget about it. They pile on more and more and more work with no compensation. You have to threaten to quit to get taken seriously and even then, a former director even told my colleague “start interviewing elsewhere, get an offer letter and bring it back to us so we can try to see if we can match” which is INSANE. Ascension is the definition of underpaid and overworked. Insurance traps you with Ascension providers only yet claim its “PPO”. Any provider you want to see outside of Ascension has limited to no coverage.

Horrible Company

Pros

Lets just say not many exist. It is a job if one is needed. That is the only pro.

Cons

Horrible benefits for a healthcare organization. Surrounding health organizations offer way better options, pay and coverage. The pay at Ascension is garbage, which is why the employee retention rate is sooooooooooo bad. It is seriously bad. High turn-over which causes there to be a lot of inexperienced staff working. No Raises even though they are non-for profit and they are sitting on billions of dollars and the CEO's of the "non-for-profit" company are making tens of millions of dollars a year. If that doesn't sum it up then I don't know what will. The staff morale at every Ascension site I have been at is the same, horrible! That starts at the top. Instead of firing lower level management (as they like to do), I think the upper level management and above should be fired. That is where the change is needed. Not on the lower end. This organization spews tons of stuff out that talks themselves up to look good like they have values and morals. That couldn't be further from the truth. The companies actions negate all that, and the company is stupid if they think the staff doesn't see right through all of it.

Pros

Decent benefits and flexible work hours even though they’re well above 45 per week

Cons

Too many reorganizations. Outsourcing multiple IT teams to India has most fearing for their job. There’s no loyalty given back to a loyal and high performing employees, it seems everyone is disposable for the cheaper foreign work. Current employees would be fools to not look outside of this organization due to leadership failures like this. It does not ‘live their mission’, and is not the same company I was once proud to be a part of. If you’re looking for 6 months of experience to put on a resume before being eliminated, this is the place for you.
