AWS - Good variable pay, toxic workplace

Pros

- uncapped variable pay - opportunity to move roles, countries

Cons

- Terrible managers, the kind that pick favorites based on the number of hours you spend at the office (in covid times, yes), micro managers who understand little about the actual business - Limited opportunity to evolve and contribute with tons of competitions between peers for visibility, promotion and attractive projects - Customer obsession turned into Sales obsession and insane sales growth goals

Pros

- a complete open book to show show your strengths and create your own career roadmap within the organization - Incredible scale and speed of work being done - working alongside very smart people and in general humble peers - willingness to help and empathize across the team peers - once inside, there are several career paths and you can be the controller of your own destiny if you have a good team and manager

Cons

The points below can be positive if it suits your personality and work ethic, but worth mentioning if they are not already known by the reader: - ambiguity around position, priorities and responsibilities is a common result of the fast pace and growth of the business - no hand-holding or clear direction or matching of responsibility with tenure. You are expected to ramp-up, discover the most effective direction based on your goals and strengths and prioritize effectively in delivering results. - the entire experience can be very dependent on your peer team and direct manager
