Pros

Most of the job spent remotely, away from idiotic store management.

Cons

Management: In my 5 years in the role I had to endure wage theft, aggressive physical and verbal conduct from my line manager, line manager trying to lie to colleagues about their rights and perks, line manager encouraging drivers to truncate safety checks below the recommended alloted time, line manager perving on female section leaders (patting his lap and calling to them "...come here, little girl..." when he has a child himself), pally managers that block grievances, management blocking police requests for CCTV footage that show 3rd party crimes committed against drivers, management lying about personal injury circumstances, management trying to con staff out of sick pay, management retaliating with fabricated policy breaches after staff report shocking manager behaviour, line manager deliberately not issuing necessary training/health & safety updates for his WHOLE department (financially motivated), management ignoring/covering up vehicle defect reports, company advertising job as specific hours whilst knowing that they cannot honour the contract, unofficial zero hours like contracts, thicko managers that do not know staff rights (especially regarding the right of having a non-GMB rep attend meetings), deliberately not paying overtime hours or double shifts, managers that think ACAS is a union, managers that continue a hate campaign against a driver, despite knowing that a family member is suffering with cancer.

Pros

The home shopping department at my store is like a little hidden Utopia amongst the mean streets of Northamptonshire. This particular store also enjoys the presence of the best Personal Shopper in the Whole Wide World and 2 of the best beards in the UK. You get to drive a lovely van around the lovely countryside delivering shopping to lovely, lovely people, listening to lovely music. Love the wide-angle mirrors. Automatic vans so you can steer with your left hand and leave your right arm on the window sill, and as to what to do with your free hand, use your imagination, the sky is the limit. Savage and relentless banter in the depot. Seriously green uniform.

Cons

"We're one of the biggest private sector employers in the world"......... But 2 months to get a pair of trousers. Being paid the bare legal minimum, to the penny, doesn't make you feel too valued. No extra money for driving. Considering the difference in potential consequences of messing up your job when stacking a shelf to driving a goods vehicle, that's pretty harsh. Reversing an Iveco autobox up a steep hill is an acquired skill for sure, u get used to it though. You might find yourself driving your own car miles down the motorway in 4th gear, and pulling up to roundabouts in 5th and wondering why you start to stall. Getting promoted would mean working in an ASDA. Other than that, no cons. Great job.

Pros

The colleges iv met while employed by by asda are some of the best people iv ever met. Plenty of overtime available.

Cons

No celebration of good work, terrible work life balance. Pay not good unless you work ridiculous hours. My last week of employment I worked 78 hours going full days with no opportunity to take a break.
