I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Starbucks (Orange, CA) in May 2011
Interview
Big group setting, not many chances for those to speak of the group is really large. You want to make a statement that will make you stand out in the crowd. If you aren't able to get the managers attention they will probably not be remember you therefore will not pick u.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks in Nov 2014
Interview
I was referred by an employee and was quickly called for an in person interview. The store manager seemed quite busy and left me waiting awkwardly for 15 minutes while he spoke to members of his team.
The interview itself was great. Good conversation and questions. I was told that I would hear back by the end of the week and that he was leaning toward hiring me.
I followed up a week later and was told he was still interviewing but was happy I was still interested. I should hear back within a week. Followed up two weeks later and was told the same thing.
After over a month of waiting, I followed up again and was told that he was in the process of hiring someone else. Also said he would refer me to other stores. It's been six weeks and I've heard from nobody.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks in Dec 2014
Interview
After submitting my application online, I received an email encouraging me to go introduce myself to the manager of each location where I wanted to work, which I did. Only one of the location managers called me.

Question 1
I was contacted within a week from the time I went in and introduced myself to the manager. She set up my interview for the following week, and advised me that the training process would begin in two additional weeks. During the process I had to describe my business and personal goals, and recall an example of when I had to make a decision in a situation when no clear answer or advise was immediately available.
