I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Rippling (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2021
Interview
The company reached out from one of the sourcing websites
phone screens
Technical phone screen
Manager screen - manager gives you a product demo
virtual onsite
- 2 coding rounds
- 1 system design
If you want to work with people that only wants to you to solve problems their way, this is the place you are looking for.
One of the coding interview was done by a new grad, he was looking for you to answer some graph theory that you learned in school ages ago.
The system design interviewer didn't even pay attention to you after he asked the question. You can literally hear the slack ping and see them responding to the pings, and ask you questions that you literally just pointed out.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
phone screen - employee data aggregation
manager screen - what are you looking for in your next role
coding
- a connected graph problem
- implement API counter
system design
- design a web crawler
I interviewed with the recruiter after applying, she explained the process to me and told me I would need to take an assessment before moving forward to the hiring manager. I took the assessment which was a scenario based questionnaire, I felt it was wired I had to write something out but did my best, not sure what the point was as I clearly had the experience it took me 2 hours. After the deadline, I received a follow up that they weren’t moving forward in the process and I’m still not sure why. I’m glad this happened though considering others interviews.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rippling

Interview with the VP of Talent
Interview with the current HRBP
Interview with the COO (cancelled)
The interviews were informal with standard behavioral questions asked. Everyone was nice, but communications was disorganized. Multiple recruiters facilitated the process, which made it confusing.
The final interview was cancelled, after I was told it would be rescheduled, because the COO changed his mind about the type of candidates he wanted to source.
