Interview
Process took about 2 weeks. Recruiter reached out to me for initial phone screen to which she said would forward the profile ahead and let me know if I would be going forward. The recruiter came back with two technical video interviews for 45 minutes . The first interview was pretty good and the interviewee made me feel pretty comfortable while asking questions. Asked about onboarding data from different sources, my experience, culture and about the role. The second interview was a disaster. The interviewee was 10 minutes late and did not turn on his web cam at all throughout the "video" interview. He has around 10+ years of experience in splunk administration I suppose and I just have 1.5 years to which he asked me to architect the whole environment with reasoning to each which was a little unfair as I was a user of splunk and the environment was built before I had joined my company. So, I answered according to my environment but could not justify the architecture because of obvious reasons and the interview just went flat after that. I told him honestly that I do not have an architect or an admin certificate and I applied to the position since it is written 1+ years of experience in splunk infrastructure and clearly he was expecting more since it is "Senior" position according to him and said I would tell the team to take out 1+ years of experience from the JD. Also, I tried to explain him a question of troubleshooting he asked relating to my environment where monitoring is done by "Zabbix" to which he laughed and said I don't even know what tool is that which was quite rude (Hope you do now). However, to be fair, yes, I did not answer most of his "Senior" level questions but this is not how you treat an interviewee. I may not have as much as experience as you do but would never make anyone feel so helpless in the interview the way it went. Since, I have friends who told me how good the company is which I believe too and asked if they have a junior position to which they said we will let you know. Nothing to take away from the recruiter and the first interviewee they were the best!
